2. WHAT ARE THEY WEARING?
In this music video, Corinne is wearing
summer themed clothing; sleeveless white
top alongside with knee length denim
shorts.
White is a colour that is often worn during
the summer, as it absorbs less heat from
the sun. Corinne has decided to wear knee
length shorts instead of shorts that stop
at the thigh, this suggests to us that she
doesn’t want to be looked at through the
male gaze, or objectified. Most
mainstream record labels require their
artists to be shown in the male gaze,
however, Corinne is signed to an
3. What are they
In this music vidweoe,a Croinrignn?e is wearing
barely any makeup. This suggests to
us that she feels comfort in her won
skin. This also blends in with the
environment of the music video; it is
set in the countryside during summer.
This connotes to us that she is part of
the background; natural. Her hair is
also in its natural curls, which help to
further suggest that she is not too
worried about her appearance when
she is out and about.
4. What are they doing?
In this music video, Corinne is in two scenes; in the
first one she is cycling around the countryside with a
group of similar dressed females.
There is a narrative in this music video, she catches a
red ribbon and follows it trail alongside the other
cyclists, but she takes a different route which leads
to a tree filled with the red ribbons.
5. Meaning of the
lyrics
Three little birds, sat on my window
And they told me I don't need to worry
Summer came like cinnamon, so sweet
Little girls double-dutch on the concrete
This is a reference to Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds”
Maybe sometimes, we got it wrong, but it's
alright
The more things seem to change, the more they
stay the same
Don't you hesitate
Girl, put your records on, tell me your favourite
song
You go ahead, let your hair down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your
dreams
Just go ahead, let your hair down
Chill out, relax, play your favorite song to
soothe things. When things don’t work out
your way.
6. You're gonna find yourself somewhere,
somehow
Blue as the sky, sunburnt and lonely
Sipping tea in a bar by the roadside
(Just relax, just relax)
Don't you let those other boys fool you
Gotta love that afro hairdo
Maybe sometimes, we feel afraid, but it's alright
The more you stay the same, the more they
seem to change
Don't you think it's strange?
She’s encouraging women of colour to not
change their natural hair for the satisfaction of
men. Love yourself, Corinne herself has
naturally afro hair.
This is the opposite of the line before, now it’s her
who stays the same, while others change around
her. Sometimes you get the feeling like being stuck
in a rut, and everybody around you is evolving but
you.
7. Cinematograp
• Shot types- various shhoty types were used such as close ups, mid-shots,
longshots and extreme longshots. We are introduced to the setting of the
countryside with the use of a crane longshot, panning down towards
Corinne and the ladies that are cycling, once she starts lip-syncing. This
then cuts into close ups and mid-shots of the star, as record labels want
us to want to either be with the star or to be like the star. Uses and
gratification code links to this music video.
• The longshots used allows lots of natural lighting to come through into
the set, this makes the colour of the shots full of contrast, as the sun’s
rays often block out what we are looking at. It is as if nature is stopping us
from positioning her in the male gaze.
• There is a montage flicking back and fourth from Corinne cycling and
Corinne walking around. When she walks around we usually see her in a
close up, this follows Goodwin’s theory of voyeurism, we seek pleasure it
looking at her. In these close ups shallow space and sometimes deep
space focus is used to either make us pay attention to the environment or
to the star.

rule of thirds is also used when she is cycling.
• Cut to close ups of things that Corinne touches; this
creates a sense of intimacy between the viewer and the
star. Close ups are also more interesting to see in a range
of montages, rather than longshots.
