1. Using CARIS Onboard
CARIS Onboard supports the same range
of sonars and acquisition formats as
CARIS HIPS™ and SIPS™. Large volumes
of data are automatically imported and
the trusted HIPS and SIPS algorithms
are applied. CARIS Onboard generates a
HIPS project and can be easily configured
to output other products, such as DEMs
and image mosaics. All of which are kept
up to date as new data is processed.
By the time the survey platform has
completed its mission a fully geo-
referenced DEM and mosaic, along with a
HIPS project, are available for final quality
control and use in survey deliverables.
System Overview
The CARIS Onboard software has three
main components:
Process Designer provides a graphical
interface to design and configure data
processing workflows. It allows users
to add, customize and save a variety
of processing tasks. This includes
data import, tide and sound velocity
corrections, creation of output data
products and automated data cleaning
(e.g. using CUBE). Standard processing
workflow templates are also provided.
Onboard Service is an automated service
that monitors for raw data files from an
acquisition system and batch processes
the acquired survey data. As new data
is detected it is automatically processed
using the workflows defined through
the Process Designer. The output data
products (e.g. HIPS project, DEMs and
mosaics) are also registered for remote
access. Products and quality information
generated by the Onboard Service are
streamed to the dedicated Control Centre
or to desktop applications, such as HIPS
and SIPS. This enables the hydrographer
to view the geo-referenced survey in near
real-time for quality control and decision
support while the survey is underway.
Control Centre provides a single access
point for users to configure, manage
and monitor the Onboard Service.
Status information about the processing
is displayed alongside a map window
showing survey coverage and data
quality. The Control Centre can be used
on a vessel or accessed remotely from an
office location, via an internet connection.
Built on decades of hydrographic data processing expertise and supported by the highly scalable CSAR
framework, CARIS Onboard™ enables users to process data from a range of sensors in near real-time to
minimize data conversion and processing times. Designed with autonomous operations in mind, CARIS
Onboard can also save valuable time and resources when used on survey vessels and launches.

3. Number One
HIPS and SIPS is recognized in the global
marine community as the number one
hydrographic data processing system. By
supporting over 40 sonar formats, it can
process data from virtually any system
configuration.
Latest Processing Techniques
The latest processing techniques can eas-
ily be applied to your high volume sonar
data, ensuring efficient and repeatable
results. This includes total propagated
uncertainty, CUBE processing, statistical
surface cleaning, dynamic 3D data editing,
and an array of geodetic and quality gate
filters.
CARIS knows that accuracy and efficiency are all-important in your business, which is why the HIPS™ and SIPS™
solution integrates the processing of bathymetry, water column and seafloor imagery in a single application.
With HIPS and SIPS vast amounts of sonar data can be interrogated at speed, making full use of the latest
computing power and saving you valuable time.
The software also includes the latest seafloor classification tools and workflows, allowing more information
to be extracted from your seafloor measurements.
TRUST THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE DATA PROCESSING SYSTEM
“My first task when joining the
UKHO (in 2002) was to assess
all current bathymetry software
to help select the primary tool to
be used by our staff and the UK
Royal Navy for multibeam data
processing. Based on our assess-
ment criteria, HIPS and SIPS
was the clear winner. Eight
years on, we have not regretted
that decision.”

5. Manage complex marine spatial information, eliminate data redundancy, improve productivity and extend the
use of your data holdings with CARIS’ flagship enterprise GIS solution. Hydrographic Production Database™
(HPD) addresses the data management and cartographic production requirements of the world’s largest and
most advanced hydrographic agencies.
Efficiency is maximized in HPD™ with features being stored only once; this coupled with the ability to
associate multiple cartographic representations for different product types has positioned HPD as the
number one solution.
System Architecture
HPD is comprised of client and server
software. The HPD Server™ stores
source information and derived products
in a seamless database. This allows
for multiple product types to be easily
created from the common source.
Changes between the source data
and products are efficiently tracked
and updates can be easily applied.
The HPD clients facilitate the loading,
compilation and verification of the
source information. They also support
the creation and maintenance of the
Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC),
Additional Military Layer (AML), Inland
ENC (IENC) and paper chart products
from the common verified source data.
Relational Database Support
HPD works with the latest Oracle
versions for data storage and
maintenance. This allows you to
leverage the industry-leading security,
performance and scalability offered
by Oracle in the management
of your spatial information.
Powerful Compilation Tools
Source data compilation is aided by
HPD’s support for a multitude of raster
and vector GIS formats. Data can
be captured directly from these GIS
sources, or used as a basis for manual or
automatic digitizing. Existing paper charts
in digital format and S-57 products can
also be easily loaded into the database.
Sophisticated tools also allow
you to create sounding groups,
collection objects and master and
slave relationships. For paper chart
compilation, you can create symbol
annotations in an automated fashion
and add straight line, curved or
blocks of text using the desired font
and justification. All of which can
dramatically reduce compilation time.

7. The Complete Solution
The LOTS software provides a complete
set of tools to enable coastal states
to submit a claim under UNCLOS
Article 76. This includes the ability to
determine the geomorphological foot
of the continental slope and the ability
to create the constraints and formulae
lines defined in the Scientific and
Technical Guidelines of the Commission
on the Limits of the Continental Shelf. It
is also used extensively in non-Article
76 applications, such as to provide
solutions for maritime boundary
disputes or for building the cadastral
fabric for effective marine management.
Robust Algorithms
The LOTS software contains
sophisticated and robust geodetic
tools allowing the creation of median
and equidistant lines, equiratio lines,
envelope of arcs, bisectors, loxodromes
and geodesics. These capabilities
