Energy efficiency is the most cost-effective way to address climate change and energy security concerns. Existing technologies could cut energy consumption growth in half with attractive returns. However, market barriers like misaligned incentives and information deficits impede greater efficiency. The U.S. Department of Energy's strategic priorities include appliance standards, building codes, industrial efficiency programs, and establishing an international partnership on energy efficiency.
