Whether you are a seasoned professional looking for new creative opportunities, or a recent graduate entering the job market, these days you need to know how to write a cover letter if you want to get that dream job. It isn’t enough to have a standout resume or CV. You need an introductory email or cover letter to go with it.
4. NUMBER TWO:
The job
Include a quick reference to the job that you’re applying
for!
DON’T FORGET: the person you are writing to may be
recruiting for several positions at once!
5. The first
paragraph
Let the recruiter know :
Ø WHY you’re applying for
this particular job;
Ø WHY you’d love to work for
this company;
Ø WHY you are uniquely
qualified;
Ø WHY this position is your
dream job
This is your chance to DEEPEN
the connection to the recruiter.
Give a short career summary to
start this paragraph.
Convince him/her: why you should
be selected for the job?
Tell a story that makes you
desirable, that shows you would
make a good addition to the team.

The second
paragraph
6. TIP NUMBER FIVE:
The conclusion.
This is your opportunity to seal the deal.
Thank the manager for his/her time and consideration,
and do it in a way that demonstrates your passion and
commitment.
DO NOT FORGET TO:
ü Include your contact information;
ü Let the recruiter know that you will follow up.
6
7. NUMBER SIX:
Read your letter out loud!
MAKE SURE THAT:
v You’ve communicated why the
company needs you rather than
the other way around;
v The cover letter flows well;
v Your winning personality comes
through;
v You read it to a friend before
you send it out: he or she will
be your best judge!
7
8. NUMBER SEVEN:
Proofreading makes the difference
ü Check your verbs. Some great active verbs to
use are: create, launch, navigate, analyze!
ü Check your descriptions. Words that will make
you sound great are integrity, enthusiastic,
committed.
ü Avoid clichés—find a fresher way to say what
you mean. Don’t cause eye rolls. 8
10. NUMBER NINE :
Take the time to do it right!
• Don’t use the same cover letter for everyone!
• Be personal and connect with the reader.
• Invest 30 EXTRA minutes, both to research and
tailor that cover letter: it’s time well spent.
