This lesson discusses the difference between "ni ikimasu" and "te kimasu" in Japanese. "Ni ikimasu" means going to do something but does not imply coming back, while "te kimasu" implies going to do something and then returning. The document provides examples of using each expression and instructs students to practice describing pictures using both patterns.
As mentioned before, ∼に 行きます expresses the idea of
“going to do something”.
!
Say one of your colleague tells you “I will go to eat lunch.” as;
However, would you be able to guarantee that the colleague will be
back to the office because this person never mentions to come
back in the above statement.
There’s no guarantee that the speaker will be back to where he/she makes this statement.
I’ll go to eat lunch.
I’m full now.
Well then,,,,
Where has she gone?
4. There’s another expression to express the idea of going to do
something then coming back;
I’ll go to eat lunch.
+
+
I’ll come (back from where I eat).
き
Did you notice that the above format is what we learned as
“sequence of actions” in Book 1, connecting multiple actions by “teform”.
Now there’s a guarantee that the speaker will be back to where he/she makes this statement.
I’ll go to eat lunch,
then I’ll come back.
I’m full now.
Well then, I’ll be
back to my work
at the office.

Drill : Describe each illustration in the next page by using “∼に 行きます” as

non-guaranteed pattern and “∼て 来ます” as guaranteed pattern.
Example
かい
non-guaranteed :

guaranteed :
