1. UK- CA (Chartered Accountant)
In the UK, there are no licence requirements for individuals to describe themselves or to practice
as accountants, but to use the description "Chartered Accountant" they must be members of one
of the following organisations:
• the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW) (designatory letters ACA or FCA);
• the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) (designatory letters CA); or
• the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland (ICAI) (which is a UK body as it operates in Northern Ireland,
designatory letters ACA or FCA).
What Is CA?
CA stands for Chartered Accountants and were the first accountants to form a professional body,
initially established in Britain in 1854. Chartered Accountants work in all fields of business and
finance. Some are engaged in public practice work, others work in the private sector and some
are employed by government bodies.

It does not matter if you have not studied accountancy or business before, you can still train to
become a CA. However, the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) is compulsory
for the CA training.
• Two A2 levels and three GCSE passes including Maths and English (most employers ask
for A or B grades) or their equivalents. You do not need an A-level in Maths. Equivalent
grades at International Baccalaureate level or equivalent school leaving certificate
qualifcations are also welcomed
All you need is a university degree or an international degree in any field but formally
recognized as a U.K. equivalent. Or you can be a full member of the Association of Accounting
