Introducing the ADVA MicroMux™

The document introduces the ADVA MicroMux, which enables 100GbE ports to support legacy 10GbE or 40GbE clients without loss of total system capacity. It can fit into existing QSFP28 cages without modification. The MicroMux is part of ADVA's FSP 3000 CloudConnect system, which offers high power efficiency, scalability from gigabits to terabits, and open hardware and software. The CloudConnect combined with the MicroMux allows for flexible client port configurations from 20 to 52 ports of 100GbE or 200 to 520 ports of 10GbE in a single system.

Call Home is an innovative system that enables network functions virtualization (NFV) and software-defined networking (SDN) in situations where virtual customer premises equipment (vCPE) is protected by a cable modem or a firewall. In this presentation, ADVA Optical Networking’s engineers outlined this new technique and explained how it makes secure NFV/SDN deployment possible when a NETCONF client is otherwise unable to initiate an SSH connection directly to the NETCONF server. Rajendra Nagabhushan and Vikram Darsi discussed how the IETF draft for NETCONF Call Home Using SSH can be implemented as an OpenDaylight feature. They demonstrated how the technology can be applied in a real-world use-case and outlined how an ADVA Optical Networking product is being developed ahead of its 2017 release.

Accurate timing is essential for effective operations in today’s data centers. An ePRTC synchronization source can offer the levels of precise synchronization required and remove vulnerability to GNSS outages. With the latest optical timing channel (OTC) technology, PTP-optimized optical transport can be used to distribute accurate timing all the way from the core of the network to the edge. What’s more, this can be delivered through GNSS/GPS-backup-as-a-service (GBaaS), whereby a specialized service provider operates a robust and reliable network, supplying precise and secure timing as a backup to highly vulnerable GNSS. In his ITSF 2022 presentation, Igal Pinhasov explored the value of utilizing GBaaS to provide accurate time for data centers using optical timing channel technology over long distances.
