2. 2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
-My magazine initially
represents the younger
generation (16-25) part of
the public. In my opinion, my
magazine portrays them in a
positive and creative
attitude, instead of the
negative and troublesome
attitude that society seems
to tag them as these days.
3. FRONT COVER’S REPRESENTATION:
-The models are looking into the
camera looking somewhat
sophisticated and chilled, connoting
a classy, urban and stylish attitude to
the magazine.
-Portraying young male adults as
creative and productive individuals in
a positive way instead of the
stereotypical ‘lad’.
-Cool colour scheme which is carried
out throughout the magazine (red,
black, grey and blue).
4. CONTENT PAGE’S REPRESENTATION:
-The model are looking into the
camera again looking chilled and
somewhat edgy, connoting a chic
and stylish vibe to the magazine.
-Portraying young female adults as
happy and individual people in a
positive way.
-Cool colour scheme which is carried
out from the magazine colour (red,
black, grey and blue).
5. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD’S REPRESENTATION:
-The band’s colour scheme, adding
differentiation of colour and theme
to the magazine, to highlight that
they are the main asset of this
issue of the magazine.
-The models are looking into the
camera again holding their
instruments, adding a sense of
creativity to the magazine.
6. 3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Bauer Media Group distribute many alternative genres of magazines, yet issue the
main rock and alternative music magazines such as Q and Kerrang! Therefore I
believe that my music magazine would fit in nicely with Bauer Media Group.
7. -I believe the Bauer Media Group would be a suitable media institution to issue
my music magazine; ‘OFF!’, due to them being the distributers to two of the
main rock and alternative music magazines, and therefore my magazine would
fit in nicely in the more alternative music magazine gap in the industry.
- I have made the magazine to appeal to both the male and female audience,
by using both genders as models for my magazine cover, contents and
double-page spread.
8. BAUER’S RIVALS:
-I believe that IPC would be the main rival
Bauer, due to the, being the distributor of one
of the most famous rock magazines in today’s
society.
-NME would be one of the biggest rivals for
my magazine due to it containing a very
similar music genre and type of rock and
alternative music to mine.

9. 4. Who would the audience be for your media product?
-Age: 16 – 25 year olds.
-Social Class: B/C1 (Monthly magazine – ought to be able to manage payments
for this magazine on a monthly basis.)
-Gender: Male and female.
-Ethnicity: Any ethnicity.
-Profile: Strivers and achievers, people who enjoy listening to
alternative music based around the rock genre; music they listen to and enjoy.
The chosen genre is alternative and rock music, I believe these two genres
have fused over time, by looking at the music of this variety in society today.
My target audience would be more attracted to bands such as Foo Fighters,
Muse, Kasabian and Arctic Monkeys.
10. 5. How did you attract/address your audience?
Prior to the creation of my music magazine, I carried out some audience
Research, in order to find out how popular alternative (indie) and rock music
was, and whether a new and fresh magazine of these genres would be
appreciated, or not.
-I found that 15 out of 39 people out of my audience listened to alternative
(indie) and rock music.
-I found that exactly half of the audience were male and the other, female.
-I found that 15 out of 39 people out of my audience read magazines of this
genre. Such as Q, NME, Mojo and Kerrang!
-Also found that 18 out of the 39 people of my audience either wanted fresh
and new alternative (indie) and rock music magazine, or were not bothered.
12. 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
COVER:
-I used Adobe Photoshop to create my cover.
-I used drop shadow on the masthead. -I used bevel and emboss for the flash.
13. CONTENTS:
-I used Adobe In Design to create my contents page. I have placed
the text around
the model’s
cheek to create
an edgy look.
-I did not use many effects during the creation of my contents page on In Design,
this is because I was trying to make it look as simple and sophisticated yet edgy as
possible, to keep the basic theme running through the magazine itself.
14. I have separated the text
DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD: into three columns in
order for the magazine to
look more legitimate.
15. 7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt
in the progression from it to the full product?
