 HP WorkStation Series .
A workstation is a special computer designed for technical or scientific
application.Intended primarily to be used by one person at a time, they are
commonly connected to a local area network and run multi-user operating
systems.
The term workstation has also been used loosly to reffer to everything from
a mainframe computer terminal to a pc connected to a network.
There are lots of company who produce workstation.they are…
1. SUN Microsystem
2. SILICON Graphics.
3. Apollo Computer.
4. HP
5. IBM
These companies opened the door for 3D graphics animation revolution of
the late1990’s.
To know abut WorkStation at first we must know about the other
components of information technology as like,
1.PDA (Smart Phone)
2.Tablet
3.Laptop
4.Personal Computer
PDA
TABLET
LAPTOP
PERSONAL
COMPUTE
R
WorkStation
PDA stands for PERSONAL DIGITAL ASSISTANT, a smart
phone is also a pda,a personal digital assitant also known
as a palmtop computer or personal data assistant,is a
mobile device that functions as a personal information
manager.PDA’s are largly considerd obsolete with the
widespread adoption of smart phones.
It is a mobile computer that is primarily operated by touching the
screen, there are different types of tablet, that are,
1.Internet Tablet – A mobile appliance focused on internet and
media features.
2.Microsoft Tablet PC – A pen enable personal computer
specification announced by microsoft in 2001.
3. Graphics Tablet – It is also called digitizing tablet,a computer
input device for capturing hand-drawn images and graphics.
4.Clay tablet – One of the erliest known writing mediums.
A laptop is portable personal computer with a
clamshell from factor, suitable for mobile use, they are
also some time calls notebook computer or
notebooks, laptops are commonly used in a varity of
settings,including work,education and personal
multimedia.
PC reffer as PERSONAL COMPUTER,every desktop
which we use in different area as like home
purpose,educationpurpose,work/business
purpose.Personal Computer called as AIO that’s
mean All In One.In computing All In One is a
computer storage format,
All in One PC means a desktop computer with the
moniter and CPU in same case.
COMPONENTS OF PERSONAL COMPUTER
 CPU (Central Processing Unit).
 MEMORY.
 HARD DRIVE.
 CHASSIS.
 KEY BOARD.
 MOUSE.
 POWER SUPPLY.
 MOTHER BOARD.
 FAN.
 COMBO DRIVE.
 CHIPSET.
CPU stands for Central Processing Unit.It is the hardware within
a computer that carries out the instructions of a computer
program by performing the basic arithmetical, logical, and
input/output operations of the system. The form, design and
implementation of CPUs have changed over the course of their
history, but their fundamental operation remains much the
same.
A computer can have more than one CPU; this is
called multiprocessing, All modern CPUs are microprocessors,
meaning contained on a single chip. Some integrated circuits
(ICs) can contain multiple CPUs on a single chip; those ICs are
called multi-core processors. An IC containing a CPU can also
contain peripheral devices, and other components of a
computer system; this is called a system on a chip (SoC).
In computing , memory means RAM(Random Access
Memory),it is form of computer data storage,A random
Access Memory device allows data items to be read and
written in roughly the same amount of time regardless of
the order in which data items are accessed. It is also
called non-voladile memory.
In computing the hard drive means the HARD DISC of a
computer. This is the main storage of a computer, large hard
disc keeps more file, and it has the more capacity to store files.
In an electronic device the chassis consists of a frame or
other internal supporting structure on which the circuit
boards and other electronics are mounted. In computing
chassis means the cebinet or the cover of
CPU,Memory,SMPS etc…….
These are the Input Devices.User can give data to the
computer by these.
In computing power supply means SMPS(Switched-Mode Power
Supply),it also called switching mode power supply or switcher,it is
an electronic power supply that incorporates a switching regulator
to conrert electrical power efficiently.
Like other power supply an SMPS transfers power from a source
like mains power,to a load, such as a personal computer while
correcting viltage and current characterists.
MOTHER BOARD…
A motherboard also known as the mainboard, system board, planner
board,or
Logic board..
 Mother board is the main printed circuit board(PCB) found in the
computer and other expandables system.
 It holds many of the crucial electronic components of the
system, such as the CPU and memory.
 It provides connectors for other peripherals.
 A motherboard containes significant sub-system such as the
processor and other components.
 Include sound cards,vedio cards,network cards,hard drives or
other forms of personal storage.
It is a cooling device,it helps to cool the total processor of a
system. It found in the chassis of the system(Central
Processing Unit) Computer cooling is required to remove
the waste heat produced by computer components to keep
components within permissible operating temperature limits.
Components that are susceptible to temporary malfunction
or permanent failure if overheated include integrated circuits
such as CPUs, chipset, graphics cards, andhard disk drives.
The cd drive or DVD drive which are usage for read and
write to a cd disc are called combo drive. Flopy drive is
also a part of a combo drive.
CHIPSET…
In a computer system,a chipset is a set of electronic components in an
integreted circuit that manages the data flow between the
processor,memory
and peripherals.
 It is usually found on the motherboard
 Chipset are usually designed to work with a specific family of
microprocessor.
 It controls communications between the processor and external
devices.
 The chipset plays a crucial role in determining system performance.
In computing the term chipset is commonly used to reffer to a set of
specialized
chips on a computer’s motherboard or an expansion card.In personal
computer’s the first chipset for the IBM PC at was the NEAT chipset by
chips
DIFFERENT TYPES OF HARD DRIVE…
Basically there are four types of hard drive.
 ATA
 PATA
 SATA
 FATA
ATA – ATA reffer as Advance Technology Attachment. ATA also know
as IDE, is
disk drive implemention that integrates the controller on the disk drive
itself.
ATA is used to connect hard disk drive,CD-Rom driver and similer
peripharals.
PATA – PATA means Parallel ATA ,originaly at attachment,is an
interface standard for the connection of the storage device, such as
hard disks, flopy drive and optical disk drive in computer. It is the
previous name of ATA.
SATA – Serial ATA is a computer bus interface that connects host
bus adapters to mass storage devices such as hard disc driver and
optical drives,Serial ATA replaces the older at attachment standard
(latter reffer to as PATA).
FATA - The FATA or FC-ATA is a type of hard disk drive,FATA is
simply the low cost of ATA or SATA disk drive equipped with small
external converter.
In computer architecture a bus is a communication system that transfers
data between components inside a computer, or between computers. This
expression covers all related hardware components (wire, optical fiber, etc.)
and software, including communication protocols.
Early computer buses were parallel electrical wires with multiple
connections, but the term is now used for any physical arrangement that
provides the same logical functionality as a parallel electrical bus. Modern
computer buses can use both parallel and bit serial connections.
Internal bus
The internal bus, also known as internal data bus, memory bus, system bus
or Front-Side-Bus, connects all the internal components of a computer,
such as CPU and memory.
External bus
The external bus, or expansion bus, is made up of the electronic pathways
that connect the different external devices, such as printer etc., to the
computer.
USAGE OF WORKSTATION IN DIFFERENT WORK
ENVIRONMENT…
Now a days workstation is very important and usefull for the different
segment
or different working area,as like..
A. Manufacturing – workstation are heavly use in manufacturing
purpose, for manufacturing the department use different kind of
application software, which does not run on normal personal
computer as like- AUTO-CAD,it’s powerfull funcationality and
customized tools allows each type of Auto-cad software to assist
with project across building,infrastructare,product,factory,plant
and other type of design, workstation uses largly in warehouse for
manufacturing.
B. FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING – Workstation also use in financial
accounting,we understand that an oppurtunity missed because of
slow system performance can cost millions when multiple across
a trading environment, having a reliable back up system is
esential, workstations provides the perfect solutions. Not only the
most compact from factor currently on the market, the dual CPU
performer powered by intel Xeon processor effectivly improves
multi-tasking across a varity of applications without sacrifice of
performance.
C. GEOGRAPHICAL INOVATION – Computer assisted learning or by
computer based larning we use workstation for geographical
inovation purpose, workstation’s AMD fire pro professional
graphics are certified for geographical information system and
visualization.
D. Oil & Gas – Workstation use in ONGC for make high graphics
protocol or prototype of the project. The organization named
ongcindia uses aprox 5000 software in their linux based
E. DIGITAL MEDIA CONTENT AND ANNIMATION – The main part or
specialization of a workstation is it’s graphics
processor,Dreamworks and other company which involved with
animation and graphics they need workstation, because the highly
graphics does not support in normal pc’s.Hp and IBM opened the
door for the 3D graphics animation revolution of the late
1990’s.There are lots of high graphics software(MAYA 3D) run very
smooth rather than a personal computer.
F. Bio-Medical – bio-Medical organization Tata Institute Of
fundamental Research used workstation for Bio-medical and
genomics. The host computer is ----- HP XW4200 workStation.
G. Education – workstation deliver the performance the school
needs to run professional software applications at a price that’s
right for educational budget, there are lots of organization like
ISI,NIT use workstation rather than desktop for high performing.if
the students need high graphics for architecture or want to make
protocol model, the workstation will help them.
HOW WILL YOU UPGRADE YOUR CUSTOMER
FROM PC TO WORKSTATION ?
A workstation is very high configured CPU of computer,to
upgrade our
customer from pc to workstation at 1st we must know the need
of the
customer, thets mean we must able to know that what type of
work
customer want to do,if the customer related with business
devlopment
Or editing work as like photo or sound or vedio editing then he
must be
need a workstation.
 We can say them the benefit of uses workstation,as like
workstation
can do high graphics work and also editing.this type of work
very much
needed in film industry(production house/mixing sound or
We can also tell them the difference between a workstation and a personal
computer as like,
A. PERFORMANCE – A pc has enough power to do most task such as
email,web surfing,
And word processing, but a workstation has more power,it can handle CAD
animation,data
Analysis and photo realistic work as well as redio and audio creation and
editing.
B. DURABILITY - The internal workings of a workstation are held to a high
standard than
those of pc,each part as like motherboard,CPU,RAM is built with the
understanding that it
will be pussed hard all day long.
C. COST- Workstation’s cost is higher than Pc but it is more powerfull than a
pc so it is

CPU stands for Central Processing Unit.It is the hardware within a computer that carries out the instructions of a computer program by performing the basic arithmetical, logical, and input/output operations of the system. The form, design and implementation of CPUs have changed over the course of their history, but their fundamental operation remains much the same. A computer can have more than one CPU; this is called multiprocessing, All modern CPUs are microprocessors, meaning contained on a single chip. Some integrated circuits (ICs) can contain multiple CPUs on a single chip; those ICs are called multi-core processors. An IC containing a CPU can also contain peripheral devices, and other components of a computer system; this is called a system on a chip (SoC).
  • 12. In computing , memory means RAM(Random Access Memory),it is form of computer data storage,A random Access Memory device allows data items to be read and written in roughly the same amount of time regardless of the order in which data items are accessed. It is also called non-voladile memory. In computing the hard drive means the HARD DISC of a computer. This is the main storage of a computer, large hard disc keeps more file, and it has the more capacity to store files.
  • 13. In an electronic device the chassis consists of a frame or other internal supporting structure on which the circuit boards and other electronics are mounted. In computing chassis means the cebinet or the cover of CPU,Memory,SMPS etc…….
