2. Idea and Approach
– Target group: SMMEs + champion companies that share
and attract
– Main objective: low hanging fruits + awareness creation
– Main approach: assisted peer learning
– ECOPROFT: methodical process to increase resource
efficiency and thus save money and protect the
environment via:
• reviewing resource efficiency in manufacturing
• developing evaluating, implementing and reviewing measures
that increase resource efficiency and reduce costs
• using tools consistent with ISO management systems
2
3. Elements
– thematic workshop: basic information
– individual company on-site visits: identification of
potential measures
– working material that is ISO 14001/50001 compatible
and visit protocols
-> identification of measures based on cost-benefit-
analyses
-> implementing monitoring system
-> Networking and peer learning

9. Yenza Manufacturing Port Elizabeth
– 60 broken but yet glowing fluorescent tubes were
replaced or switched off
-> 7,000 kWh/a
– Air leakages have been detected, new regulators,
clamps and fittings have been installed
– 55 kW screw compressor was running at very low load
of 39 %.
– compressor is now switched off completely during
nights and week ends
-> 59,600 kWh/a

17. Lessons learned
– Better together: Group setting leads to exchange
and generation of ideas and ensure lasting effect
– Keep it short and simple: Work material has to be
simple and adjustable
– No sweet without sweat: Investing time in resource
monitoring requires convincing
