2.Describe your personal learning preferences (1 paragraph, 100-150
words)
When I first took the learning styles survey at the beginning
of this semester I scored a 9 in the active learner section, a 9 in
the sensory learning section, a 5 in the visual learning section
and a 5 in the sequential learning section. Right now, at the end
of the semester I don’t think my interests have completely
changed. I have noticed an increase in my ability to learn outside
of a sequential way. Using all the technologies and different
websites in class has helped me be able to accomplish tasks out
of order and independently. Overall I think learning preferences
can be changed with practice, and that it is probably good to
practice getting better at other learning methods. I would say
knowing about learning preferences hasn’t really affected my
personal learning success in any significant. Although, it has
made me more aware of my own.
3.Describe the learning pathway you chose at the beginning of the
class (1 paragraph, 100-200 words)
At the beginning of the semester I chose the learning
warrior learning pathway because I wanted to learn about
different websites that could make my learning more effective. I
was very successful of learning a more broad knowledge of
multimedia learning technologies. One multimedia website I
found that is really helping me study for finals is the screencast
websites. As a product of the learning warrior style I have a
bunch of screencasts saved about almost every section in y
biology textbook.I did not change my learning pathway during the
class.
4. Describe how the activities you completed contributed or did not
contribute to your learning pathway (1 paragraph, 100-200 words)
Using Screencasts exercises really helped me understand
a broader use of multimedia in that it helped me realize that I can
create my own lectures. I can take out important information and
2. prepare short lectures for myslelf to help me learn.
Screencasting also helped me get a deeper understanding,
because it helped me really understand how usefull multimedia
was. It taught me that mulitmedia wasn’t just talking about a
device. Screencasting is the best for working with others
because you can watch each other’s presentations, then correct
them.
5. Using one paragraph each, describe the top 3 mobiletechnologies
you explored for learning (3 paragraphs, 100-150 words each)
Screencasting allowed me to make mini-lectures based off of my
notes and take home test and midterms. I think it accommodates
my visual learning because I can put in graphics and charts and
along with short worded facts it helps me memorize things much
better. It also acconodates my sequential learning skills. I can
place things in the order I best learn them in and which helps me
remember them.
Podcasts came in second for me. Podcasts to me were less
helpful screencast. However, I did learn to look for podcasts
about topics I care about like the Star Craft 2. I now listen to Star
Craft podcasts about playing strategies and over all news about
the community and any changes coming to the game. It helped
active learning because I could listen to what people were syaing
then practice their strategies and build orders
Lastly for the multimedia lecture I really just used it to learn about
the multitude of different multimedia sites. It was really cool
looking at how an ipad could turn into a 3D imager of the human
brain. Also Richard Mayer’s quote about how words and pictures
are better than words alone I use today when teaching swim
lessons and swim technique. I have a whiteboard and
sometimes a swim doll to show arm bends. It helped my visual
learning because I could see how everything worked and how
other people used multi-media.
6. Synthesize your experience investigating your use of different
3. multimedia technologies for learning (2 paragraphs, 100-150 words
each)
Screencasting interested me the most. Podcasts surprised me
the most, mostly because it actually was a learning tool. I figured
podcast could be used similar to a lecture, but it always seemed
like it didn’t have enough uses to be considered a learning
multimedia source. Podcasts are great and they are entertaining
to listen to, but to me I think podcasts don’t help my learning
alot. I think not being able to watch someting along with the
podcats makes me loose track and look somewhere else. I want
to explore screencasting more!!
The social technologies that helped my learning the best were
the twitter but mostly the social learning technlogy built into
Ilearn, the forum. To me the forum was a gold mine of
information and answered questions. I learned so many different
techniques, apps, uses and technologies that I have actually
made my bookmark list and iphone like Batman’s utility belt. I
have an app or website for everything.
7. Describe how you will use what you learned in this class after this
semester (2 paragraphs, 100-150 words)
After this class I will continue to use screencasts and podcasts.
Although I mentioned earlier I don’t think it’s a good learning
device, for someone who wants to be a reporter i think it is
usefull. I want to be a televsion or radio reporter and a
screencast or podcast is not only good on a resume but it helps
me practice my voice, writing stories and presenting thing in a
way that other people find interesting.
After this semester i will continue to use screencasts and
podcasts. In my hopefully future job as reporter for TV or Radio
podcast can help my followers stay in touch with what I am
doing. Also If I end up working for radio, podcasts have become
a huge part of radio, and having a podcast and knowing how to
podcast will really help me stand above the rest of my
4. competition for jobs. I think i will use each multimedia
technologies after this class and I think each has its own way to
be used for learning.
