2.Describe your personal learning preferences (1 paragraph, 100-150
words)
When I first took the learning styles survey at the beginning
of this semester I scored a 9 in the active learner section, a 9 in
the sensory learning section, a 5 in the visual learning section
and a 5 in the sequential learning section. Right now, at the end
of the semester I don’t think my interests have completely
changed. I have noticed an increase in my ability to learn outside
of a sequential way. Using all the technologies and different
websites in class has helped me be able to accomplish tasks out
of order and independently. Overall I think learning preferences
can be changed with practice, and that it is probably good to
practice getting better at other learning methods. I would say
knowing about learning preferences hasn’t really affected my
personal learning success in any significant. Although, it has
made me more aware of my own.
3.Describe the learning pathway you chose at the beginning of the
class (1 paragraph, 100-200 words)
At the beginning of the semester I chose the learning
warrior learning pathway because I wanted to learn about
different websites or applications that could make my learning
more effective. I was very successful of learning a more broad
knowledge of mobile learning technologies. One Application I
found that is really helping me study for finals is a snapshot app
that turns pictures into printable PDF files. I also got to know an
application for mobile flashcards very well thanks to a
reccomendation from a fellow classmate in a forum post. As a
product of the learning warrior style I have an entire section of
apps just dedicated to learning apps.I did not change my
learning pathway during the class.
4. Describe how the activities you completed contributed or did not
contribute to your learning pathway (1 paragraph, 100-200 words)
2. The biggest thing that helped me with every section of this class
including learning how how to use mobile technologies for
learning was the forum posts. Not only did the responses to my
questions help but just reading my fellow classmates questions
and suggestions really gave me some great ideas for apps and
activities. For what helped me learn deeper I would still say were
the forum posts, reading why someone would reccomend and
explain an app then try it out myself was really helpful. I would
get a deeper understand by trying out myself what i learned in
the forum posts. Besides the forum posts, I would say the mini
lectures. they taught me everything I needed to know.
5. Using one paragraph each, describe the top 3 mobiletechnologies
you explored for learning (3 paragraphs, 100-150 words each)
One of the mobile learning quests that really explored was the
Ipad/tablet learning quest. After taking the quiz I began reading
the different response on the i pad forum posts, I looke through
alot of applications and i came across a topic about using
textbooks for the ipad. So I borrowed my friend’s iPad and
started looking for textbooks. I found one text book that I paid
300 dollars for available on the ipad for around 100. I think it
helped my visual learning because it made reading a textbook
much more apealing. the font was bigger, always well lit and it
wasn’t as dauning reading one page at a time. Also, it helped my
active learning because I could copy and paste important
definitions or sentences on to a flash card app and into notes.
For the microblogs learning quest I got inspired to explore what
is appropriatly named the “twitter-verse”. I went around following
and un-following a bunch of different twitter profiles. Mostly I
followed anything starcraft. While it isn’t about school it is a
game that takes a lot of studying, a lot of practice and a lot of
research. I followed every announcer, pro gamer (that spoke
english) and pro-gaming strcraft team. It helped me stay on top
of new stratgies that were coming out. It also helped me know
when some of my favorite players were live-streaming, or playing
online so I could watch and study how they played.
3. Lastly the ipods/ and mp3 players quest gave me the knowledge
to learn that ipods weren’t just music devices. I realized through
suggestions in the forum posts that ipods also had flashcard
apps, but I also learned that I could record lectures with my
computer then transfer them over to my iphone and listen to the
lectures again. I listened to my lectures in all of my classes. It
also made the research paper writing in my media research
class. I would record my instructors exact words about what she
expected on our papers and would listen while writing.
reseraching and formatting my final papers and studies. It helped
me get amazing grades on those projects.
6. Synthesize your experience investigating your use of different
mobile technologies for learning (2 paragraphs, 100-150 words each)
The mobile technologies that interested me the most was the
turboscan app. It seemed like an idea everyone has needed at
least once in their life. An ability to take a picture of a very
important note or reading and have it as paper in your hand. the
one that surprised me the most was that the ipad could be such
a good mobile learning tool. I figured it was mostly just for
entertainment, but I realized that going onto google docs, the
ipad with its on screen keyboard could act exactly like my laptop!
I didn’t find mobile technologies i couldn’t use for learning. I
would like to explore the ipad more as a learning technology, but
I need to buy one first.
the mobile learning device that helped me the best was my
iphone. it acted like a mobile laptop for me and let me do
everything i could do on my laptop but wherever I went. It helped
my sequential learning because I could learn things at my own
pace and could spend as much time as I wanted on subjects that
i needed to know to move on a later subject. It helped my visual
leanring because I always looking at what i was learning, i got
used to seeing it and could recognize lifecycles of plants or
paper formats just by looking at them.
4. 7. Describe how you will use what you learned in this class after this
semester (2 paragraphs, 100-150 words)
I will continue using my iphone and my friends ipad for learning. I
will also continue to use his ipad for textbooks and looking at
research papers. I will also continue using twitter to stay on top
of growing trends and staying in touch with group members. I
can use this for work expecially as a reporter because I can use
twitter to follow other reporters to learn breaking news. I can
update my followers with stories I am covering and having an
ipad or tablet will give me an easy and super mobile version of
laptop I can use to research and write my stories.
will continue to use ipads and my iphone for learning in other
classes after this class. I will search for future textbooks and try
to buy the mobile version of them possibly on a nook or mobile
reading device. I will continue to use them because it is easier
and more cost efficient. I will also continue to use twitter for
staying up to date with everything starcraft and with my friends.
