1. Painting toy 3 Date: 25/11/10 Thursday
What I did: I painted my toy today. I don’t know why it always split when it is dry,
so I painted the toy again and again.
I painted the rocker first. Because brush could not picked up a lot of pigment, so I
found a piece of wood. I used the top of the wood, to pick up some white
pigment, and the other top of the wood is used to picked up some brown
pigment, and put two colors together, because it doesn’t light enough, so I put
white color more, it still to dark, so I picked up white color 3 more times, and it is
pretty light. I used a small brush, used the color with brown and white to paint on
the top part of the rocker. Next, I used another brush, picker up brown color, and
paint on the bottom of the rocker. After that, I used a clean brush, the right part
of the brush dip the light color, and left part dip the brown color, paint on the
middle part. Then I turned the brush around, and paint again.
Why: Because the pigment always split, so I have to do it again and again.
Emotion: Because the pigment was always split, I am not happy with it.
What next: if the pigment won’t split again, I will finish painting next period.
Learner profile: This activity develop me as a thinker and principled learner.
Because I should think what tools I should use and I have to plan what I am going
to do.
This was a photo that I was repainting the body and the rocker for my toy.
2. Repaint from the beginning Date:29/11/10
Before I starting to write this journal, I want to congratulate myself, because the
pigment didn’t split today!
What I did: I repaint my toy, only rocker today. When I looked my toy, I am happy
is that the pigment didn’t split today. But I am not happy is that the pigment
didn’t look smoothly, it is actually rough, may be I should use a little brush.
After I decided sanding and filling off the pigment, I started to find a good sand
paper. I was using a sanding paper that is retired from the Disc-sander. It is
pretty hard to sand off the pigment, because I used a lot of pigment on my rocker.
When I was sanding, Kento was sanding too, he was extremely fast. The sand
paper that he was using, the side that have teeth is gray, and at the back it is
blue. So I went to sand box and find a same one as his, and start filling. I sanded
for some times, and I was looking the pigment that I sanded off, it is curls, and if
you touch it, it is soft, just like a skin. Then I started to sand faster, for a couple
of time, the pigment didn’t stick in the wood any more, I even used hands to take
it off. A clean and smooth rocker appeared again.
Because if you don’t want the pigment split again, you should use water more a
little bit. Then I always dip some water after I picked up pigments.
Why: Because my toy, especially rocker looked really bad, I decided to repaint.
Emotion: Although I repainted my toy today, but I am happy. I am happy because I
can fixed problem by myself, and I found a way to do a thing faster.
Change plan: I didn’t planned that I will repaint today. I was planned prepare to
finish today.
What next: I will finish painting the rocker next period.
Learner profile: This activity develop me as a thinker and principled learner.
Because I should think what tools I should use and I have to plan what I am going
to do.
sanding off the pigment on the rocker.
This is the photo that I repainted on class. The color and the method is the same.

3. Gluing Eyes Date: 1/12/10
What I did: I glued eyes on my toy today. But before that, I was painting the
rocker.
I found a piece of wood, then cut it because it was too long. Then I found the
pigment, of course, white and brown. And I took two brushes, one is for painting
the bottom, and one is for the top. Why? Because I will do the gradual change. I
paint the bottom of the rocker brown, just use brown color, and I used another
brush, picked up some white color, and pick a little of brown, put them in to a
plate, let them mixed in one place. Them picked up the pigment, and painted on
the top of the rocker, then put more brown in the pigment that was in the plate,
when I finished paint every time, put some brown, until to the bottom.(Fig 1)
(Fig 1 Rocker is painted)
I waited for like 20 minutes, let the pigment dry. During the time, I was choosing
eyes for my toy. I chose a pretty big eyes, but I think it is fit to my toy.
4. Then I found a drill that like pencil called drill bits , it was used by drilling holes.
I put it on the drill machine, and put the toy on the bench, then drill through
away, I think I did pretty well.
Next, Mr. Anderson let me to find a kind of glue called Contact Adhensive, Ii was
in a bottle. It is yellow, it is very sticky. I used a piece of wood, put it into the
bottle, and pull it out as fast as you can, the wood won’t stick in the bottle, and
glue into the hole and the eyes(see fig 2), let it dry for a minute and put them
together, that’s the method.(see Fig 3)
Fig 2: gluing the hole.
Fig 3 : finished gluing the eyes.
Why: Because I sanded off on the last period, so I repainted this class.
Emotion: I think I did a pretty good job today, I am satisfied.
What next: I will sanding the body and the rocker next period.
Change plan: I didn’t change plan today.
Learner profile: This activity develop me as a thinker and principled learner.
Because I should think what tools I should use and I have to plan what I am going
to do.
5. Finally finish painting
What I did: I finally finished painting today. First I was painting the rocker.
I went to a desk, where brushes and bottles is there. I ripe brown picked up some
brushes and a bottle, then put some water in the bottle and back to where I
worked. Next, I went to the paint pot, and found some pigment, actually it was
just two, ripe brown and white.
Then I started to paint. I used the same formula as last time. Using a piece of
wood to pick up pigment. Then using the top of the wood, to pick up some white
pigment, and the other top of the wood is used to picked up some brown
pigment, and put two colors together, because it doesn’t light enough, so I put
white color more, it still to dark, so I picked up white color 3 more times, and it is
pretty light.
Then I started to paint the claw of my bear. Because I wanted to paint the claw
like this (see fig 1), so I took a small brush from the desk and took a bottle of
black pigment from the paint pot. The shape of the claw is oval, but on the other
side it is acuate. I started to paint very carefully, and try me best to let the thing
looks like a claw, and I was very successful.
Why: because bears have claws, so I should paint the claw.
Change plan: I didn’t change any plan today.
Emotion: I am very happy today because I finished painting.
Learner profile: This activity develop me as a thinker and principled learner.
Because I should think what tools I should use and I have to plan what I am going
to do.

6. My rocking bear.
the back of my toy, I change the color of my rocker.
Project complete!!!!!
What I did: I finished my project today. I sanded the toy first.
I was sanding the sharp-corner, the sharp-corner are all on the rocker. I used the
sand paper first, the gray one, but it is not very effective, so I used the file, and it
can easily to sand off.
Then I focus on the body, I just realized that I didn’t paint the nose and mouth.
7. I painted the mouth first. Before painting, I used a pencil to draw the shape first. I
draw an open mouth first, but it didn’t fit my big eyes. So I draw an half round,
and it is pretty beautiful.
Then I start to draw the nose, but that is easy, I only have to draw a black point.
At last, I was drawing the leg this(see fig 1), But there’s a problem, in the middle
part, should I saw it? Of course I can’t. I can only draw a line through down. So I
failed on this.
Emotion: I am happy because I finished my project today.
Change plan: I didn’t change any plan today.
Learner profile: This activity develop me as a thinker and principled learner.
Because I should think what tools I should use and I have to plan what I am going
to do.
Why: because bears have mouth and nose, so I should draw it. And kids like a
smile toy, so I draw a smile mouth.
