 Auðlindir eru uppspretta auðs og nýting þeirra er
  samfélagsleg nauðsyn

 Auðlindir í sameign eða án eiganda eru annað hvort
  vannýttar eða ofnýttar en hvoru tveggja er samfélagslega
  óhagkvæmt

 Eigandi er meðvitaður um eðli og takmarkanir
  auðlindarinnar og hefur hag af
að nýta auðlindina og koma í veg fyrir ofnýtingu og vannýtingu.
að hagræða nytjum þannig að þær hámarki arð í bráð og lengd
