act of gender-based violence that results
in or is likely to result in physical,sexual or
psychological harm or suffering to women,
including threats of such acts, coercion or
arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether
occuring in public or private life
(UNITED NATION’S GENERAL ASSEMBLY
DEFINITION,1993)
5. Emotional abuse
You
may feel like if you're not being hurt
physically, you are not being abused. But
attempts to scare, isolate, or control you also
are abuse. They can affect your physical and
emotional well-being. And they often are a
sign that physical abuse will follow.

someone: Monitors what you're doing all the time
Unfairly accuses you of being unfaithful all the time
Prevents or discourages you from seeing friends or
family
Tries to stop you from going to work or school
Gets angry in a way that is frightening to you
Controls how you spend your money

8. Dating Violence
-Dating violence is when one person purposely hurts or
scares someone they are dating.
-Dating violence includes: Physical abuse like hitting, shoving, kicking, biting, or
throwing things
Emotional abuse like yelling, name-calling, bullying,
embarrassing, keeping you away from your friends,
saying you deserve the abuse, or giving gifts to
"make up" for the abuse.

Eve teasing refers to the public sexual harassment
or street harassment to a girl by a boy, when it turns
into a serious issue.

What
is it???
Aborting a female foetus after sex -determination test.
Reasons:-preference for a male child
-financial obligation
-illiteracy
-women viewed as a liability

to Indian govt.,10 million girls have
been killed,either before or after birth by their
parents.
Medical experts in India says that an
estimated of 80,000 women die due to illegal
abortions.
Satyamev jayate highlighted its 1st episode on
female foeticide which talked about 3 cases.

-Tests were commercially available.
-Test abuse started for sex determination and
diagnosis of femal foetus.
-Amniocentesis test by AIIMS for genetic
diagnosis was a break through in India in
1980’s.

PN DT act was passed in 1994
prohibiting tests that reveal the gender of the
foetus prenatally and abortions on the basis
of foetal sex are illegal.

Dowry means the money,goods or the estates that a
woman brings to her husband in marriage.
It is a continuing demand.it is a series of gifts before
and after marriage till the in-laws and the husband
are appeased.

Offence
which inlvolve unlawful sexual
gratification.
Sexual penetration without individual’s
consent,obtained by physical harm or when a
victim is incapable of giving consent.
