1. Introduction
Suicide squad is a 2016 comic book movie by Warner brothers and DC Comics and had some of DC most famous villains. The
movie had a budget of 175 million dollars and grossed a over all box office of 746.8 million. The movie was released on 5th
august 2016 in the United Kingdom. This was the first comic book movie to have the villains as the main chatchters instead
of a superhero.

2. When suicide squad was promoting the movie they released a wide variety of full cast posters to get fans excited
about the different comic book characters they would be appearing in the movie most for the first time. This was also
the first comic book movie In both marvel and DC to focus on a group of villains. They use the tagline on the first
poster “worst, hero's, ever” to show that this is not a typical superhero film they are villains who are being forced to
do good so when things go wrong in the film there aim isn't to do good. The posters use a bright green and purple
theme throughout most of the first set of poster released.
3. They released a variety of solo character poster
which show thier individual looks and powers
while having the symbols for each villain in the
background. Each character had there own
unique logo which linked with there power and
personality these were show behind he
characters in the poster but then later were also
released as separate posters so fans could have a
better look at there logos The final image
released was #suicidesquad which links with
there social media campaign. The Q in squad on
the final poster has a stick attached to it and
represents Harley Quinn because she usually has
a lollypop with her.
4. The first trailer for suicide squad currently has
86,919,077 view and was published by warner
brothers to hype up the new instalment of the
DCEU the trailer was released on the 19th on
January 2016 just under 7 month before the film
was released into theaters to hype up the movie
and the trailer showed a mixture of action and gave
equal time to show some of the main characters
and actors who were in the movie a large focus of
the trailer was on will smiths deadshot and the
highly anticipated theoretical debut of Harley Quinn
who had not appeared in a DC movie before this
even though she had been a fan favorite since she
first appeared in the animated batman tv show.
Harley Quinn was played by the talented Margot
Robbie who had previously did the movie with Will Smith called focus and the chemistry between the two characters carried
over into suicide squad. In the description for the trailer they put the website for suicide squad so fans could find out more

5. The website for suicide squad shows the main
character Harley Quinn with her iconic bat
surrounded by other secondary characters from
the movie. Since the movie came out in 2016
there is also a place to buy the movie from the
publishers which for this movie is Warner
Brothers again there is a poster for the film on
the website which is using the bright green colour
that appeared in the first set of posters with
purple around the edges.
Warner brothers also added a description of the
movie on the website so people who have never
heard of it can read what its about then decided
to watch it.
Under everything there are stories, photos and
interviews from the actors on their characters
and competitions they had when the movie first
came out so fans could go the premiere of the
movie.
6. When suicide squad had the chance to be on the cover for empire
they decided to do four different front covers to show off there most
established actors and characters which included 30 seconds to mars
singer Jarad Leto who was criticized for the way he portrayed the joker
and for the lack of the joker in the movie when the trailer focused on
him and he was in all the promotional material. On the jokers
magazine cover they went with his classic purple and green colors
which people represent with the character
Margot Robbie’s, Harley Quinn was featured on another version of the
magazine with her classic weapons and a brighter colour scheme of
pink which matches her personality because Harley is quite light
hearted and funny
The third cover that was created was model and actress Cara
delevingne’s enchantress who is more of a dark chatchters so they
went with a dark blue background with a pile of skulls to the side of
her to show she has a dark side to her. Her costume looks like she is in
chains so it shows she is dangerous
The final cover made for empire magazines is Will Smith’s deadshot
who has a fire background and went with a yellow theme to represent
the character of deadshot he can be danger to people but is also a
caring farther
7. When suicide squad they decided to have multiple different
covers to show all of there characters. One of the most popular
covers was the joker and Harley cover because this is the first
time they have been together in a live action adaptation they
also are the only two characters that are smiling in any of the
entertainment magazine covers to show how crazy the
characters are. They use the tagline “meet the worst of the
worst” which attracts people in because they want to find out
more about characters which the audience may not be as
familiar with then they would be with characters such as the
joker or Harley Quinn. The characters are also surrounded by
fire and destruction which links with the characters
backgrounds and how they don’t do good so something is most
likely to go wrong.
8. Suicide squad’s soundtrack was full of highly publicized songs with the music videos
looking like the setting for the film. Artist such as twenty one pilots and G-easy were
included on the album. Which attracts their fans into buying the album and watching the
movie to hear their music. The album cover included all of the chatchters from the film
in the skull form from the earlier posters. They also stayed with the green and purple
theme which they have used throughout the campaign. These colors are usually used to
represent the joker who was appearing in the movie.
When big artists are signed to soundtracks of movies it creates hype because fans of the
artists will be excited to hear new music from them and will support the movie because
they are linked to it and promoting it on their social media.
9. This poster was posted on social media to get fans
excited to see the new incarnation of the joker. This
poster mimics what they did for the dark knight
campaign where the joker graphited over the poster
to create excitement for the first movie adaptation
since the dark knights joker.
10. Comic con 2015 was when the cast got together
to announce suicide squad and this is when they
premiered the first trailer to excite fans because
this is the first superhero movie to focus on the
villains instead of the hero's. the cast talked
about the characters they will be playing and
answered fan questions about the stories on set
or the comics the characters they will be playing
in the movie. San Diego comic con was a good
place to debut the first trailer because thousands
of people go their every year to hear about new
movies and tv shows before other people
11. To the lead up of the movie warner brothers released a downloadable app so you
could play as one of 3 characters to do a special mission and give you a taste of the
movie locations. During this time they also released a suicide squad emoji pack so
people could use the emoji's when they text people so thy would be constantly
reminded of the movie
12. To the lead up to the movie there was a lot of merchandise was
released including pop figures, clothing, replicas from the movie such
as Harley Quinn's bat. These were made to make more money before
the movie came out in case people weren't happy with the movie and
they already had the merchandise before going to see the movie.
13. At the end of the campaign their was a lot of hype for the movie because of the trailers, posters and merchandise that was
released for the movie. The movie made 746.8 million on a 175 million budget unfortunately for DC the movie did not do
well with critics because it received a 27% rating on Rotten Tomato's and this was a disappointment for fans because they
were hoping this would be the movie that saved the DCEU because the previous film Batman vs Superman was also not well
received and got a slightly higher score of 28%. The trailer 86,919,077 view and was well put together making the movie look
fun but to critics and fans the movie itself was not as good as the trailer showed it to be. The official suicide squad Instagram
currently has 2.1 million followers. It is likely man people unfollowed the account after the movie had finished paying in
theaters. Post from when the movie was playing in cinemas got around about 2 million likes but now the average is around
81 thousand likes 2 years after the movie was released. The twitter account for the movie also has 454K followers
14. Suicide squad had many different platforms they used to promote the movie. The first platform they used
was releasing trailers and clips from the movie to make fans excited to see their favorite comic book villains
in. the trailer was well put together with a good soundtrack. The trailers made it clear that it takes part in
the same universe as batman and superman because they reference superman in the trailer and by saying
he is dead shows where the movie takes place in the timeline for this franchise. They also went with the
colour scheme of bright green and purple throughout the campaign that was used in the trailers when they
said the date of the movies release and when it showed he cast and this has been used on the posters. The
posters showcased the chatchters from the movie giving the audience a look at the character appearance
and their costumes. They have also kept the Q in squad a skull. This helps the audience because it makes
them realize its for the same movie and that everything is linked together and hopefully them have seen
something the like and want to see the movie. The social media platform provided clips and looks at the
posters while sticking with the green and purple themes.
15. The message is communicated through the promotional materials for the movie all of the
products they have released for the movie have been cohesive by using the same colour scheme,
logo and actors. It is creative because it’s a movie centered around villains being the hero's which
is unique in itself by focusing on one of DC comics most beloved characters fan of the character
and DC will be interested when they find out Harley Quinn is in the movie. This movie is aimed at
people aged over 15 because its got more of a dark tone and deals with more adult problems
than other superhero movies have. They decided to release the posters first to create excitement
for the fans so they could se who was in the movie before they released the trailer.
