9. About project:
Reality -
Considering the socio-economic conditions of Dhaka, architectural
vocabulary is kept simple, with traditional space.
An introverted design strategy was hence adopted, placing a water-
court as a swimming pond in the middle of the house to ensure
privacy.
The south and south-east have been designed to bring in cool breeze
during the summer times and warmth of the sun during the winter
times.
The central water courts acts as a natural exhaust system to make
the middle court a cool sanctuary.
11. About project:
• Dream-
Lalon’s philosophy, The underlying
inspirations for this building.
The open quad at the center depicts
Nothingness.
A small “dingi” boat waiting by the “ghat”.
When light caresses the wall, or the water
touches the land, or the land pats the green,
or the green cuddles, its all about touching
and filling the soul.
14. Material and Climate-
Constructed of a single material,
cast concrete.
Tropical wet and dry climate.
15. Architectural form:
The building envelop of this three storey residence is a pure square.
The sphere, the universal celestial form, in this case is transformed to its
terrestrial expression in the shape of square.
17. Function :
• Parking
• Driveway
• Lobby
• Waterbody
• Veranda
• Drawing

31. About
Project:
Reality-
The Meghna residence is a
single extended family
house located at
Dhanmondi.
This house has been
conceived in three layers-
surrounding context, the
climate, the traditional
typology.
This a corner plot
connecting roads at the
northeast and northwest.
32. About Project:
Dream-
The house is facing a large open playfield
and a swimming pool.
Having summer winds from the east,
southeast and the south shift towards the
southwest carrying monsoon rain.
On the southeast is a six storied apartment
with a facade having 49 windows peeping
over the plot and two storied residence on
the south west with potentials of high-rise
construction in future.
35. Materials
Made of bare cement panels.
Wooden formworks,
Cast concrete.
Little bricks covering some of outer
walls.
36. Architectural form:
To achieve a traditional living ambience with layers of greeneries and water
to achieve a deltaic condition, it shapes “U” form.
45. Site planning and landscape detailing
The dominant presence of greenery is a specific
landscaping choice.
46. Findings
The concept of Old Dhaka’s roads and
functions are exhibited in Rafiq Azam’s
works. The speciality of his work is creating
puzzle by using form and void.
Lalon’s philosophy is about the mankind,
locality, soul and body. In most of the work
of Rafiq Azam, there is the touch of body as
wall and soul as light, space.
