Iraq has a population that is mostly Muslim and divided between Shia and Sunni groups. It has a geography defined by the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers as well as mountain ranges and broad plains. The country's economy was previously driven by oil production but decreased after foreign invasion, though it is still an important industry along with agriculture which benefits from the rivers. Iraq has faced social conflicts between ethnic and religious groups and struggled with establishing a stable democratic government after decades of dictatorship.
