Introduction
What is I-Product?
I Product means hi-tech portable computer which
does not have any hinges. It lacks of any physical
keyboard to save the space and has a touch screen
that is used for all input needs. Products in I Product
are ipod touch, smartphone and tablet PC.
Introduction
Why do we choose this topic?
Nowadays, I-product is popular all over the
world, especially in Hong Kong. It is not difficult to see
that people are using their smart phones, tablet
computer to chat with friends or play games.
In our observation, some of our classmates would play
games on such products. These stimulate our team to
 investigate this creative area-
“How I-product technologies affect the game
 development in the future?”
Objective
To find out
1. The role of I-product in improving technology /
    revolution of video games.
2. The up-to-date technology on games in I-product
3. Orientation of game developer
4. The social issues caused by I-product

New Game Technology
1. Motion Sensor
2. Multi-touch Technology
3. Gyroscope
4. Accelerometer
1. Motion Sensor
A motion sensing input device
Range camera technology which developed a
system that can interpret specific gestures, making
completely hands-free control of electronic devices
possible by using an infrared projector and camera
and a special microchip to track the movement of
objects and individuals in three dimensions. This
3D scanner system called Light Coding employs a
  variant of image-based 3D reconstruction.
E.g. Kinect for XBOX360
Motion Sensor

2. Multi-touch
Technology
Types:
a. Resistive
b. Capacitive
Resistive Touch Screen
The screen is coated with electrically conductive and
resistive layers. Insulating spacers separate the two
conductive or resistive layers. When pressure is applied
to the screen, by a finger or other objects, the layers are
brought into electrical contact which causes a switch
closure and a command is registered.

      Pic. on how resistive works
Capacitive Touch
Screen screen panel consists of
A capacitive touch
an insulator such as glass, coated with a
transparent conductor such as indium tin oxide(ITO). As
the human body is also an electrical conductor, touching
the surface of the screen results in a distortion of the
screen's electrostatic field, measurable as a change
in capacitance. Different technologies may be used to
determine the location of the touch. The location is then
sent to the controller for processing.

           Pic. on how Capacitive works
3. Gyroscope
                    Gyroscope is used to measure
                    or maintain orientation, based
                    on the principles of angular
                    momentum.

Application:
compass(google
map), auto-rotate of the
screen of phone,etc.
Gyroscope

I&feature=player_embedded
4. Accelerometer
It is used to measure
the acceleration on 3
axes (X,Y,Z), relative
to freefall. The values
are expressed in G-
force. For example, if
the phone is lying
face-up on a flat
surface, Z axis would
read -1,X and Y axes
would read 0.
Game technology in the Future
 1.Phantom sensation
 2. NeuroSky
 3. Artificial Intelligent (A.I.)
1.Phantom
sensation(Kajimoto)it is possible to
 Aim : To develop a system where by
simulate the sensation of an object passing through your
hand or other part of your body.
 Principle: It works if you stimulate two areas of skin at
the same time, it can give the sensation of something
  passing between them.
About the experiments: when you do this on the palm
and back of a person’s hand, it can easily be made to
feel like something passes through it.
2.Electromyography(NeuroSky
)
Brainwave Sensors
 Aim: A technique for evaluating and recording the
electrical activity produced by skeletal muscles.
 Principle: Using an instrument called an
electromyograph to produce a record since it
detects the electrical potential generated by muscle
cells when these cells are electrically or
neurologically activated. The signals can be
analyzed to detect medical abnormalities, activation
level, recruitment order or to analyze the
biomechanics of human or animal movement.
3.Artificial Intelligent (A.I.)
Have not applied in i-product yet. So, it may interact
between players and be a new trend in the future.
Characters in games have their own mind. It can
improve the games.
Similar example: Siri (I Phone)
Problems arise from the new game
technology
Brainwave Sensors :
We even don’t need to move our hand and body to click any
button or complete any instruction and so it indicates that we
do less exercise. It will easily cause inadequate exercise for
human. Seriously, it will lead to the overweight problem and
even obesity problem, which is really unhealthy to human
body.
Phantom sensation + Kinect:
People will easily get confused between real and virtual world
since the boundary is not clear anymore. People likely to
enjoy virtual more and spend more time in it which will lead to
poor social skill and less communication.
Orientation of Game Developer
Game developers and platform holders have continually been
dreaming up new ways in which to entertain us. Over the last ten
years we’ve seen games focus on technology: increasing
graphical fidelity, delivering more natural animation and improving
AI and physics. More recently, new game experiences have been
delivered by gestural interaction controllers such the Wii, Move
and Kinect, also bringing with them a new audience.
However, tablet gaming could be a huge market, disrupting
 traditional game hardware markets.
Orientation of Game Developer
With now the tablet technology will get exponentially better every It
has a big screen and decent screen resolution to support cool
games. Farrior (CEO of Backflip Studios, which has sold more than
100 million mobile games) predicts that high-quality web
games, such as League of Legends from Riot Games, will likely be
adapted to run on tablets in the not-so-distant future.
Baudouin Corman, vice president of publishing in the Americas at
Gameloft, said Gameloft has more than 20 games on the iPad and
is equally bullish about it. Sales per device are much higher on the
iPad.
Affects in game market
 Game Developer
 Game Production Company
 Gamer
Game Developer
 Not only the professional game
programmer, but all the people who
  have basic app production skills.
 May earn money from their production
if their product is very famous
Game Production Company
 Would face more competition since
there are many new products in the
  market.
 Plagiarism and illegal download would
make a big loss in profit.
 Price of game would become very low
or even free to attract consumers.
 Profit may mainly be made in the
  advertisements in game
Gamer
 Have more choice of games
 More interaction with other players
due to the mature online network
  system
 May spend more time on game
because of the real time game (e.g.
  “Happy Farm” on Facebook)

  • 3. Introduction What is I-Product? I Product means hi-tech portable computer which does not have any hinges. It lacks of any physical keyboard to save the space and has a touch screen that is used for all input needs. Products in I Product are ipod touch, smartphone and tablet PC.
  • 4. Introduction Why do we choose this topic? Nowadays, I-product is popular all over the world, especially in Hong Kong. It is not difficult to see that people are using their smart phones, tablet computer to chat with friends or play games. In our observation, some of our classmates would play games on such products. These stimulate our team to investigate this creative area- “How I-product technologies affect the game development in the future?”
  • 5. Objective To find out 1. The role of I-product in improving technology / revolution of video games. 2. The up-to-date technology on games in I-product 3. Orientation of game developer 4. The social issues caused by I-product
  • 6. Project workflow Work for Create the the mind game for the Brainstorm Conduct a map in survey website and the idea mindmeiste finalize the r website Work for Determine the prezi Information Analysis the project collection for the first the results presentatio theme n
  • 7. New Game Technology 1. Motion Sensor 2. Multi-touch Technology 3. Gyroscope 4. Accelerometer
  • 8. 1. Motion Sensor A motion sensing input device Range camera technology which developed a system that can interpret specific gestures, making completely hands-free control of electronic devices possible by using an infrared projector and camera and a special microchip to track the movement of objects and individuals in three dimensions. This 3D scanner system called Light Coding employs a variant of image-based 3D reconstruction. E.g. Kinect for XBOX360
  • 11. Resistive Touch Screen The screen is coated with electrically conductive and resistive layers. Insulating spacers separate the two conductive or resistive layers. When pressure is applied to the screen, by a finger or other objects, the layers are brought into electrical contact which causes a switch closure and a command is registered. Pic. on how resistive works
  • 12. Capacitive Touch Screen screen panel consists of A capacitive touch an insulator such as glass, coated with a transparent conductor such as indium tin oxide(ITO). As the human body is also an electrical conductor, touching the surface of the screen results in a distortion of the screen's electrostatic field, measurable as a change in capacitance. Different technologies may be used to determine the location of the touch. The location is then sent to the controller for processing. Pic. on how Capacitive works
  • 13. 3. Gyroscope Gyroscope is used to measure or maintain orientation, based on the principles of angular momentum. Application: compass(google map), auto-rotate of the screen of phone, etc.
  • 15. 4. Accelerometer It is used to measure the acceleration on 3 axes (X,Y,Z), relative to freefall. The values are expressed in G- force. For example, if the phone is lying face-up on a flat surface, Z axis would read -1,X and Y axes would read 0.
  • 16. Game technology in the Future 1.Phantom sensation 2. NeuroSky 3. Artificial Intelligent (A.I.)
  • 17. 1.Phantom sensation(Kajimoto)it is possible to  Aim : To develop a system where by simulate the sensation of an object passing through your hand or other part of your body.  Principle: It works if you stimulate two areas of skin at the same time, it can give the sensation of something passing between them. About the experiments: when you do this on the palm and back of a person’s hand, it can easily be made to feel like something passes through it.
  • 18. 2.Electromyography(NeuroSky ) Brainwave Sensors  Aim: A technique for evaluating and recording the electrical activity produced by skeletal muscles.  Principle: Using an instrument called an electromyograph to produce a record since it detects the electrical potential generated by muscle cells when these cells are electrically or neurologically activated. The signals can be analyzed to detect medical abnormalities, activation level, recruitment order or to analyze the biomechanics of human or animal movement.
  • 19. 3.Artificial Intelligent (A.I.) Have not applied in i-product yet. So, it may interact between players and be a new trend in the future. Characters in games have their own mind. It can improve the games. Similar example: Siri (I Phone)
  • 20. Problems arise from the new game technology Brainwave Sensors : We even don’t need to move our hand and body to click any button or complete any instruction and so it indicates that we do less exercise. It will easily cause inadequate exercise for human. Seriously, it will lead to the overweight problem and even obesity problem, which is really unhealthy to human body. Phantom sensation + Kinect: People will easily get confused between real and virtual world since the boundary is not clear anymore. People likely to enjoy virtual more and spend more time in it which will lead to poor social skill and less communication.
  • 21. Orientation of Game Developer Game developers and platform holders have continually been dreaming up new ways in which to entertain us. Over the last ten years we’ve seen games focus on technology: increasing graphical fidelity, delivering more natural animation and improving AI and physics. More recently, new game experiences have been delivered by gestural interaction controllers such the Wii, Move and Kinect, also bringing with them a new audience. However, tablet gaming could be a huge market, disrupting traditional game hardware markets.
  • 22. Orientation of Game Developer With now the tablet technology will get exponentially better every It has a big screen and decent screen resolution to support cool games. Farrior (CEO of Backflip Studios, which has sold more than 100 million mobile games) predicts that high-quality web games, such as League of Legends from Riot Games, will likely be adapted to run on tablets in the not-so-distant future. Baudouin Corman, vice president of publishing in the Americas at Gameloft, said Gameloft has more than 20 games on the iPad and is equally bullish about it. Sales per device are much higher on the iPad.
  • 23. Affects in game market  Game Developer  Game Production Company  Gamer
  • 24. Game Developer  Not only the professional game programmer, but all the people who have basic app production skills.  May earn money from their production if their product is very famous
  • 25. Game Production Company  Would face more competition since there are many new products in the market.  Plagiarism and illegal download would make a big loss in profit.  Price of game would become very low or even free to attract consumers.  Profit may mainly be made in the advertisements in game
  • 26. Gamer  Have more choice of games  More interaction with other players due to the mature online network system  May spend more time on game because of the real time game (e.g. “Happy Farm” on Facebook)
