“Beginners’ Manual on Islam”

Lesson # 2

(The basic message of Islam)

“Say, "Indeed, my Lord has guided me to a straight path - a correct
religion - the way of Abraham, inclining toward truth. And he was
not among those who associated others with Allah.”
(Qur’an : An’am: : 6: 161)


“For We assuredly sent amongst every People a messenger,
(with the Command) "Serve (worship) Allah (God), and eschew
the ‘Taghut’ * (False gods, all powers of Evil)“
(Qur’an: An-Nahlu: 16: 36)


“Say (O Muhammad): "I am but a man like yourselves, (but)
the inspiration has come to me, that your God is one God.”
(Qur’an: Kahfi: 18: 109)


“ If there were therein Gods beside Allah, then verily both (the
heavens and the earth would) had been disordered. Glorified
be Allah, the Lord of the Throne, from all that they ascribe
(unto Him).”
(Qur’an: Anbiya: 21:22)


“ ... whoever expects to meet his Lord, let him work
righteousness, and in the worship of his Lord (God),
admit no one as partner (SHIRK). “
(Qur’an: Kahfi: 18: 110)


“Abraham was not a Jew nor yet a Christian, but he was true in
faith and bowed his will to Allah's (which is as a Muslim
following ‘al-Islam’) and he set not any as partners with Allah.”
(Qur’an: Aali ‘Imran: 3: 67)


“Say: "O followers of earlier revelation! Come unto that
tenet which we and you hold in common: that we shall
worship none but Allah (God), and that we shall not ascribe
divinity to aught beside Him, and that we shall not take
human beings for our lords beside Allah (God)." And if they
turn away, then say: "Bear witness that it is we who have
surrendered ourselves unto Him.”
(Qur’an: Aali ‘Imran: 3: 64)


“ They do blaspheme who say: ‘Allah is (Jesus) Christ the son
of Mary.’
But said Christ: ‘O children of Israel! worship Allah, my Lord,
and your Lord.’
Whoever joins other gods with Allah―Allah will forbid him
the Garden and the Fire will be his abode. There will for the
wrong-doers be no one to help. “
(Qur’an: Maa-idah: 5: 72)


SOME CHRISTIANS MAY POSE THIS QUESTION :

The Lord our God, the Lord is One!”
(Mark 12: 28-29)

(Jesus said) “I can do nothing on my
own authority.”
(John 8 : 28)

PERHAPS THESE
CAN BE CONSIDERED.

“Then Jesus went with them to a place called
Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, ‘Sit
here while I go yonder to pray….. And going a
little farther he fell on his face and prayed, ‘My
Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from
me; nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt’ “
(Mathew:26:36-40)

PERHAPS THESE
CAN BE CONSIDERED.

“Jesus says : ‘Not everyone who says
to me ‘Lord, Lord’ shall enter the
kingdom of heaven, but he who does
the will of my Father who is in heaven” *

(Matthew 7 : 21 )

PERHAPS THESE
CAN BE CONSIDERED.

(Jesus said) Do not be like them, for your Father knows
what you need before you ask him. Pray then like this :
Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy
kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in
heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us
our debts, As we also have forgiven our debtors; And lead
us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil.
(Matthew 6: 8-14 )
PERHAPS THESE
CAN BE CONSIDERED.

Jesus said to her, "Do not hold me, for I
have not yet ascended to the Father;
but go to my brethren and say to them, I
am ascending to my Father and your
Father, to my God and your God.”
(John 20: 17 )

PERHAPS THESE
CAN BE CONSIDERED.

“Is then He Who creates like one that creates not?
Will ye not receive admonition? If ye would count
up the favours of Allah, never would ye be able to
number them: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most
Merciful. And Allah doth know what ye conceal and
what ye reveal.”
(Qur’an: An-Nahlu: 16: 17-19)


“ Those whom they invoke besides Allah create nothing and
are themselves created. (They are things) dead, lifeless: nor
do they know when they will be raised up. Your God is One
God: as to those who believe not in the Hereafter, their
hearts refuse to know, and they are arrogant.”
(Qur’an: An-Nahlu: 16: 20-22)


“Allah” : Arabic proper noun; name for God, it refers
to the One and Only, the Unique Creator, Lord
Sustainer of the Universe, Who Alone is God – there
is none besides Allah.
No equivalent translation in non-Semitic language.


Does God exist ?
What do we mean by “God” ? Who is “God”?
Can there be more than one God?
Can we know God ?
What does He require of us?


“If indeed thou ask them who has created the heavens and the earth
and subjected the sun and the moon (to His Law); they will certainly
reply "Allah (God)." How are they then deluded away (from the truth)?”
(Qur’an: Ankabut: 29: 61)


Note: ‘Atheism ‘ is a new phenomena in the history of
mankind and cannot be said to be natural.
It is totally against the pure instinct of man, not to
believe in a supernatural being - for this would only be
replacing the idea of ‘God’ (the intelligent Force), with
‘nature’ (an unknown entity without any will nor
intelligence, yet said to be the cause) capable of
creating many amazing things in this universe.


Historically, atheism or agnosticism came about because of
rejection of certain ‘absurd myths attributed to God’, not an
absolute rejection of the idea of God.
In the West, there are now scientists who called themselves
as “Deists” – who believe in the existence of a ‘God’ but not
that as taught or preached by their mainstream religionists,
because their scientific research ultimately convinced them
to reject ‘atheism’ which they once held.


CONSIDER THIS VERSE :

“ Were they created of nothing, or were they themselves
the creators? Or did they create the heavens and the earth?
Nay, they have no firm belief.”
(Qur’an: Tur: 52: 35-36)
THIS REQUIRES US TO REFLECT …

DID MAN CREATED HIMSELF?

DID MAN AND THE UNIVERSE

IMPOSSIBLE

COME OUT OF NOTHING?

“NOTHING CAN COME OUT FROM NOTHING”


THIRDLY

WHEN THE PREVIOUS TWO THESIS
CANNOT BE POSSIBLE, THEN
THERE MUST BE THE A “CREATOR”,
SOURCE OF THIS EXISTENCE WHO
ALONE WAS NOT CREATED.

(THE BEING WE REFER TO AS ‘GOD’ –
the Divine, the Uncreated Creator)


THIS IS THE ONLY
POSSIBILITY.
FOR THE VERY
WORD ‘ CREATION ’
IMPLIES NEED FOR A
‘ CREATOR ’.
WITHOUT WHICH,
THE
QUESTION AS TO
OUR
EXISTENCE, HOW
CREATIONS BEGUN
DOES NOT MAKE
ANY SENSE –

The Brain is the centre which controls, directs and coordinates the
varied activities of all the innumerable organs of the body. It receives
messages from each of the senses, interprets them, sends the proper
replies to the organs concerned so that the body reacts appropriately,
and registers all the information received in the storage memory.
Think of a huge telephone exchange in continual contact with every
man, woman and child on earth, sending and receiving messages to
and from each other one every few seconds and you have a faint idea
of the incredibly complex organization of the brain .....

CONSIDER :

Obvious conclusion
From the foregoing, we cannot imagine that the brain is just a lump of
matter, accidentaly placed in our head! On the contrary, it is invested
with profound significance. The scientific fact shows that its existence
and sustainment requires a "Will" or an "Intelligent Being” who is both
its Creator and the Sustainer.
It is impossible for anything so meaningful and complex and yet orderly
in its function to exist 'without the need for Allah, the Absolute One
God, Who is the Creator, Sustainer, Nourisher of the Universe.

CONSIDER :

Animal wisdom speaks irresistibly of a good Creator who infused instinct
into otherwise helpless little creatures. The young salmon spends years
at sea, then comes back to his own river, and travels up the very side of
the river into which flows the tributary where he was born.
What brings him back so precisely? If you transfer him to another
tributary he will know at once that he is off his course and he will fight
his way down and back to the main stream and then turn up against the
current to finish his destiny more accurately.

CONSIDER :

Even more difficult to solve is the mystery of eels. These amazing
creatures migrate at maturity from all ponds and rivers
everywhere those from Europe across thousands of miles of ocean
all bound for the same abysmal deeps near Bermuda. There they
breed and die.


CONSIDER :

The little ones, with no apparent means of knowing anything except
that they are in a wilderness of water, nevertheless find their way
back not only to the very shore from which their parent came but
thence to the rivers, lakes or little ponds so that each body of
water is always populated with eels.


CONSIDER :

No American eel has ever been caught in Europe, no European eel
in African waters. Nature has even delayed the maturity of the
European eel by a year or more to make up for it's longer journey.

Where does the directing impulse originate?


CONSIDER :

A wasp will overpower a grasshopper, dig a hole in the earth, sting
the grasshopper in exactly the right place so that it does not die but
becomes unconscious and lives on as a form of preserved meat.
Then the wasp will lay her eggs handily so that her children when
they hatch can nibble without killing the insect on which they feed;
to them dead meat would be fatal.


CONSIDER :

The mother then flies away and dies; she never sees her young. Surely
the wasp must have done all this right the first time and every time,
or else there would be no wasp.
Such mysterious techniques cannot be explained by adoption; they
were bestowed.

Allah is the Eternal, the Most besought of all,
He begets not, and neither is He begotten;
And there is nothing that could be compared to Him.”

behold, they would certainly have sought out a way to the

NOTE: *God is the infinite being.
So by “infinite” it means, “limitless,
unending, without end, boundless,
beyond measure, etc.”

this box to infinity, can there be another box
outside or besides it?



IF YOU SAY “YES! THERE CAN
BE ANOTHER BOX”, THIS MEANS
THAT YOU HAVE NOT REALLY
EXPANDED IT TO THE INFINITY
THEORETICALLY POSSIBLE


SO CONCEPTUALLY, WHEN WE
REFER TO GOD WITH THE ATTRIBUTE
“INFINITE ”, THERE CANNOT BE
MORE THAN ONE INFINITE BEING.

”Behold! in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the
alternation of Night and Day,― there are indeed Signs for men
of understanding.― “
(Qur’an: Aali’Imran: 3: 190)


“ I have only created jinns and men, that they may serve (worship)
Me. No sustenance do I require of them nor do I require that they
should feed Me.”
(Qur’an: Dzaariat: 51: 56-57)


“ Do they seek for other than the Religion of Allah?―While all
creatures in the heavens and on earth have willing, or unwilling,
bowed to His Will (submitted to His laws), and to Him shall they all
be brought back.”


“If anyone desires a religion other than Islam
(submission to Allah’s will), never will it be accepted of
him; and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those
who have lost (all spiritual good).”


“Muhammad s.a.a.w.” : Arabic name meaning “the
Praised One”; he is the Chosen, Unlettered Prophet,
the servant and Messenger of Allah, the Awaited
Seal of Prophethood after whom there will be no
more prophet sent.


“There are many miracles of the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.
to be offered as the evidence, and the greatest and most
outstanding of them is still available to be considered by
anyone (even today, until the Day of Judgement ) is without
doubt, the Qur’an .... ”
