Arabic (plural) of Adab : meanings – “good breeding, decency,

nurture, good manners, refinement, cultured, decorum, courteous,
etiquette, propriety, social grace, to educate, discipline, the
humanities, etc.” sense of proportion and knowledge of their rightful
place in the order of things, the absence of which indicates injustice

“Allah witnesses that there is no deity except Him, and
[so do] the angels and those of knowledge - [that He is]
maintaining [creation] in justice (QISTw). There is no
deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise."

“O MANKIND! Worship (serve) your Sustainer, who has
created you and those who lived before you, so that you
might remain conscious of (and fear) Him (TAQWA)“

“ (Allah) Who has made the earth a resting-place for
you and the sky a canopy, and has sent down water
from the sky and thereby brought forth fruits for your
sustenance: do not, then, claim that there is any power
that could rival Allah, when you know [that He is One].”
(Qur’an: Baqarah: 2: 22)

Imam ‘Ali bin Abi Tolib r.a. said:

“The foremost in religion is the acknowledgement of Him (Allah)”
Mankind’s existence is not accidental as though without purpose,
but humans by nature are capable of knowing meanings and purpose to
his life and his special place in nature.
Unlike animals, man’s reasoning faculty is summoned to reflect upon
the higher philosophical questions as to the meaning and purpose of life
which leads to the cognition of the existence of the Divine.
There is already and innate predisposition in him towards wanting to
serve (worship) someone or something.

Those who claimed to be “atheists” even are in reality serving or
worshipping their own Selves (their desires).

“Have you seen he who has taken as his god his [own] desire , and Allah
has sent him astray due to knowledge and has set a seal upon his
hearing and his heart and put over his vision a veil ? So who will guide
him after Allah? Then will you not be reminded?”
(Qur’an: Jathiya: 45: 24)

And [mention] when your Lord took from the children
of Adam - from their loins - their descendants and
made them testify of themselves, [saying to them],
"Am I not your Lord?"
They said, "Yes, we have testified."
[This] - lest you should say on the day of
Resurrection, "Indeed, we were of this unaware."

Faith without obedience is meaningless; and obedience without Faith is
mere rituals and may even lead to hypocrisy.
Together, Faith and Obedience must lead to Righteousness with IHSAN
which essentially focus in our intention to sincerely serve Allah s.w.t.
Thus, in these three aspects can one be said to be true in his submission
to the Will of Allah (as Muslim).

“And [tell them that] I have not created the invisible
beings and men to any end other than that they may
[know and] worship Me. [But withal,] no sustenance do
I ever demand of them, nor do I demand that they feed
Me: for, verily, Allah Himself is the Provider of all
sustenance, the Lord of all might, the Eternal!”

 His reply to the question “what is AL-IHSAN ?”, he said :

 His reply to the question “what is AL-IHSAN ?”, he said :

“Al- Ihsan (righteousness or best conduct) is that you
worship (serve) Allah as though you are seeing Him;
while you see Him not, yet truly He sees you”

 It is indeed amazing that IHSAN- “righteousness or best conduct”
has been linked by the Prophet Muhammad s.a.a.w. to our
consciousness or awareness of Allah SWT. in our doing a good
deed.

 This therefore distinguishes a good deed performed by a believer
whose motivation is in ‘obedience to Allah’ from deeds
performed for other reasons (even if they are similar and generally
judged as a good deeds).

 And regarding deeds or any act of devotion, he said:

“Verily, action is by intention; and verily the worth (merit) of
that action is (to be measured) in accordance
with what is intended ... ”

migrates seeking to gain worldly benefits or for the sake of
marrying a woman, then his migration is for that which
he has intended.”

“Verily, Allah does not look at your outward form
(appearance) nor at your wealth, but He, verily will
look into (what is in) our hearts and deeds.”

STRIVE TO BE TRUE AND SINCERE TOWARDS ALLAH S.W.T. :

“And withal, they were not enjoined aught but that they should
(serve) worship Allah, sincere in their faith in Him alone, turning
away from all that is false; and that they should be constant in
prayer; and that they should spend in charity: for this is a moral law
endowed with ever-true soundness and clarity.”

“Indeed, I am Allah. There is no deity except
Me, so worship Me and establish prayer
(SWOLAH) for My remembrance (LI-DZIKRI).”
(Qur’an: TaHa: 20: 14)

“And establish Regular Prayer (SWOLAH) : for Prayer restrains
from shameful and unjust deeds; and remembrance of Allah
(DZIKRULLAH) is the greatest (thing in life) without doubt.”

“And remember your Lord within yourself in humility and
in fear without being apparent in speech - in the mornings
and the evenings. And do not be among the heedless.
Indeed, those who are near your Lord are not prevented
by arrogance from His worship, and they exalt Him, and
to Him they prostrate.”

“And whoever is blinded (negligent) from remembrance
of the Most Merciful (DZIKRIR-RAH-MAAN) - We appoint
for him a devil, and he is to him a companion (QOREEN).
And indeed, the devils avert them from the way [of
guidance] while they think that they are [rightly]
guided.”

“O you who have believed, (UDZ-KURULLAAH)
remember Allah with much remembrance
(DZIKRAN-KA-TSIIRA). And exalt (glorify) Him
morning and afternoon. It is He who confers
blessing upon you, and His angels [ask Him to do
so] that He may bring you out from darkness into
the light. And ever is He, to the believers, Merciful.”
(Qur’an: Ahzab: 33: 41-43)

“Whoever do not engage much in the remembrance of Allah,
certainly becomes free from the bind of the Faith (AL-IIMAN).”

He made them forget themselves. Those are
the defiantly disobedient (FASIQUN).”

remembrance of Allah. Those are the party of Satan.
Unquestionably, the party of Satan - they will be the losers.”

“Indeed, the hypocrites [think to] deceive Allah, but He is
deceiving them. And when they stand for prayer, they stand
lazily, showing [themselves to] the people and not
remembering Allah except a little,”

Generally, “Remembering Allah by invoking the Arabic phrases of
exalting His Holiness (TASBIH), His praises (TAHMID), attesting to His
Absolute Oneness (TAHLIL), His glorification (TAKBIR), our reliance only
upon Allah (HASBIYALLAH), our utter helplessness except with the
Allah (HAUQALAH), supplication (DU’A), etc.”
Reciting from the Qur’an, or the mere verbalization of phrases or
chanting in Arabic as taught from the Qur’an and As-Sunnah, qualifies
as “DZIKRULLAH - BIL-LISAAN) even when one has not yet understood
its meanings. And to know and internalizing its profound meaning
would even be better.

Also included in this “Remembrance of Allah” are every deeds of
Obedience (TA-’AH) ; sitting (being in presence) in the gatherings where
the knowledge of Islam is taught, preached, shared, discussed, recalled,
Studied, or recited from text, etc.(MAJLIS -AL-’ILM); circles where
invocations of Allah’s names are done (MAJLIS WIRD-AURAD); etc.

“NOW THOSE who are bent on denying the truth [of the
Prophet's message] say, "Why has no miraculous sign ever
been bestowed upon him from on high by his Sustainer?"
Say: "Behold, Allah lets go astray him who wills [to go
astray], just as He guides unto Himself all who turn unto Him
- those who believe, and whose hearts find their rest in the
remembrance of Allah - for, verily, in the remembrance of
Allah [men's] hearts do find their rest-:,”
(Qur’an: Ra’-du: 13: 27-28)

“The parable (likeness) of one who remembers his Lord
from the one who does not remember Him, is the like
comparing the one living from the one who is dead .”

“When my servant remembers Me in his self (alone or secretly), I
will remember him in Myself. And when he remembers (and extol
the remembrance) Me in the presence of gathering (people), I will

“Allah Most Exalted, said ‘I am how my servant thinks of Me;

“Whenever any of you sees a garden (from the Garden of) Paradise, tie
up your steed (enter it and attend to its gathering).” He was then
asked: O messenger of Allah, what is this ‘Garden of Paradise’?, he
s.a,w, then replied: “KHIL-QUDZ-DZIKR – Gathering circle engaged in
the Remembrance (of Allah)”

and be grateful towards You, and make us serve
(worship) You in the best way.

 "Our Lord! Make of us Muslims bowing to Thy (Will) and of our
progeny a people Muslim bowing to Thy (Will) and show us our
places for the celebration of (due) rites; and turn unto us (in
Mercy); for Thou art the Oft-Returning Most-Merciful.

“Our Lord ! Grant that our spouses and our offspring be a joy to
our eyes, and cause us to be foremost amongst those who are
conscious of Thee! (as ‘mut-taqqin’).”

Imam ‘Ali bin Abi Tolib r.a. said: “The foremost in religion is the acknowledgement of Him (Allah)” Mankind’s existence is not accidental as though without purpose, but humans by nature are capable of knowing meanings and purpose to his life and his special place in nature. Unlike animals, man’s reasoning faculty is summoned to reflect upon the higher philosophical questions as to the meaning and purpose of life which leads to the cognition of the existence of the Divine. IIMAN Belief Faith Conviction ‘AMAL [Islam] Submission Obedience Practice IHSAN Best or Righteous Conduct Faith without obedience is meaningless; and obedience without Faith is mere rituals and may even lead to hypocrisy. Together, Faith and Obedience must lead to Righteousness with IHSAN which essentially focus in our intention to sincerely serve Allah s.w.t. Generally, “Remembering Allah by invoking the Arabic phrases of exalting His Holiness (TASBIH), His praises (TAHMID), attesting to His Absolute Oneness (TAHLIL), His glorification (TAKBIR), our reliance only upon Allah (HASBIYALLAH), our utter helplessness except with the Allah (HAUQALAH), supplication (DU’A), etc.” Reciting from the Qur’an, or the mere verbalization of phrases or chanting in Arabic as taught from the Qur’an and As-Sunnah, qualifies as “DZIKRULLAH - BIL-LISAAN) even when one has not yet understood its meanings.
