Market Highlight
China expressed concern on Wednesday
about a protest against a Chinese-run
copper mine in Myanmar in which a
person was killed and some were
wounded saying China urged its
companies abroad to act responsibly and
protect the environment. Myanmar
police on Monday fired on protesters
near the Letpadaung mine which is at
the center of a long-running land
dispute, killing one person and
wounding 20.
Australia stocks were higher after the
close on Wednesday, as gains in
the Australian Real Estate Investment
Trust, ConsumerStaples and Energy sect
ors led shares higher.
U.S. stocks closed flat in a short
session on Wednesday as investors
found few reasons to push major
indexes to their sixth straight day of
gains despite strength in biotech’s
and bullish labor market data.
While both the S&P 500 and Dow
touched intraday records and the
Dow closed at a slight record, the
day's moves were slight and volume
was light with many market
participants already out for the
Christmas holiday.
