security objectives by collecting
intelligence that matters, producing
objective all-source analysis, conducting
effective covert action as directed by the
President, and safeguarding the secrets
that help keep our Nation safe

Brief History
 Original Department was the Office of
Strategic Services (OSS).
 Created By President Franklin Roosevelt in
1942
 Created to assist the military in gathering
intelligence during World War II
 Two months after WWII, OSS was abolished
and all intelligence duties were returned to
the Department of State and Defense.
 President Truman established the Central
Intelligence Group in January of 1946 with
the authority of Presidential Representative,
Secretaries of State, War and Navy

 Established the National Security Council
 Authorized Central Intelligence Agency
 CIA would be independent Agency

Brief History  Original Department was the Office of Strategic Services (OSS).  Created By President Franklin Roosevelt in 1942  Created to assist the military in gathering intelligence during World War II  Two months after WWII, OSS was abolished and all intelligence duties were returned to the Department of State and Defense.  President Truman established the Central Intelligence Group in January of 1946 with the authority of Presidential Representative, Secretaries of State, War and Navy  (allgov.com) Seal of OSS Soldiers Insignia
