2. exposition The play takes place in present time. The first Act takes place in a cheap hotel in Amsterdam and the second Act takes place in Matt’s apartment in America. There are three main characters: Davis, Matt, and Christina (who also goes by Christine and Annie) The protagonist is Matt who is depressed for most of the play because he always seems to be falling in love with the wrong girls, who are all in love with his best friend Davis. The even that occurs before the inciting incident is when Davis brings Christina back to the hotel, who is a prostitute, so she and Matt can get together.

3. Inciting incident Once Davis leaves the hotel room and Matt and Christina are alone they begin to talk and learn a lot about each other. Christina admits that she misses Davis, but Matt has sex with her anyway and develops feelings toward her. Unfortunately for Matt, Christina does not feel the same way, she is just working. Act I ends with Christina sneaking off while Matt is sleeping.

4. Conflict In the beginning the conflict is that Matt is trying to move on from his ex-girlfriend who is now his best friends girlfriend. But after he meets Christina and has sex with her he “falls in love” with her too. He wants Christina to feel the same way about him as he does for her, but she does not. Also, Christina falls in love with Davis, but he is engaged and wants nothing to do with Christina except have sex with her.

5. Rising action The second Act begins with Christina showing up after one year at Matt’s apartment. (which was an accident she thought it was Davis’s apartment) Christina is just passing through and needs a place to stay for the night, she is returning home since she is sick with AIDS. With Christina being back, Matt confesses his feelings for her, but what Matt doesn’t know is that she’s in love with Davis After Matt confesses his love for her and rushes out of the apartment to buy food for Christina

6. Climax After Matt leaves, Davis appears knocking on Matt’s door looking for his cell phone that he left behind At first Davis pretends that he doesn’t even remember Christina as she tells him how they “made love.” He keeps being rude to her but she keeps trying to hug him and kiss him, Davis finally gives in and has sex with her.

7. Falling action and denouement While Davis and Christina are having sex his girlfriend calls and he says, “I love you” to her, which makes Christina upset. After there done having sex Davis leaves her there with saying “I’m not a good guy.” After he’s gone Christina is left there alone playing “Jitterbug Boy” by Tom Wait’s, then grabs her red dress turns off the music and leaves. When Matt finally returns he sees she is gone, sits down, and plays the music where Christina left off…

8. Matt I would classify Matt as a round character. He is left off in the end of the play the same as he was in the beginning of the play. Throughout the play we see how depressed Matt really is with his life and how he never really got over Davis stealing his girlfriend. Matt seems to be really jealous of Davis and how he gets everything he wants. I think Matt can be compared to a door mat, he lets everyone, especially Davis, walk all over him. No seems to really care about Matt just like no one cares about door mats, Christina just uses Matt to get to Davis, people use door mats to wipe their feet. For Matt during the play what’s really at stake for him is his own life. He has many thoughts about suicide and had already attempted it by hanging himself by his belt. Matt seems to only be getting weaker throughout the play, meeting Christina wasn’t really something positive for him.
