2. THEME : RISK
As the theme of our project is on risk, our group would like
to explore on the risks that we take when we consume too
much alcohol.
After researching for the past few days, we discovered
some articles mention about the risk of drinking. Such as
“the dangers of drinking” “ Reduce your risk:new national
guidelines for alcohol consumption”.
Hence, our group would like to expand on this idea by
creating a website to emphasize the risk of drinking.
3. WHAT HAVE DONE NOW
• HOW DOES ALCOHOL AFFECT YOU?
1 You see double, slur your speech, you lose your sense of distance.
2 Alcohol loosens your inhibitions; you make bad judgments that can result in car
crashes, violence, unwanted pregnancy, sexual transmission of diseases, or rape.
3 A significant portion of violent crimes and vandalism among and by youth involve use of
alcohol.
4 Using alcohol can cost you your freedom. You can be grounded by parents, lose your
driver’s license, or end up in jail.
5 You can get sick or die from alcohol poisoning.
6 Poor grades may be a result of increased use of alcohol.
4. THE EFFECTS OF ALCOHOL
BRAIN DAMAGE
Binge drinking can cause blackouts, memory loss and anxiety. Long-term drinking can result
in permanent brain damage, serious mental health problems and alcohol dependence or
alcoholism. Young people’s brains are particularly vulnerable because the brain is still
developing during their teenage years. Alcohol can damage parts of the brain, affecting
behaviour and the ability to learn and remember.
CANCERS
Drinking alcohol is the second biggest risk factor for cancers of the mouth and throat
(smoking being the first). People who develop cirrhosis of the liver (often caused by too much
alcohol) can develop liver cancer.
HEART AND CIRCULATION
Alcohol can cause high blood pressure (hypertension) increasing the risk of having a heart
attack or stroke. It also weakens heart muscles, which can affect lungs, liver, brain and other
body systems and can cause heart failure. Binge drinking and drinking heavily over longer
periods can cause the heart to beat irregularly (arrhythmia) and has been linked to cases of
sudden death.
5. • LUNGS
People who drink a lot of alcohol have more lung infections and can be more likely to get
pneumonia and for their lungs to collapse. When a person vomits as a result of drinking alcohol
they may choke if vomit gets sucked into their lungs.
• LIVER
Drinking too much alcohol initially causes fat deposits to develop in the liver. With continued
excessive drinking the liver may become inflamed resulting in alcoholic hepatitis which can
result in liver failure and death. Excessive alcohol can permanently scar and damage the liver
resulting in liver cirrhosis and an increased risk of liver cancer.
• KIDNEYS
Heavy drinking can increase your risk of developing high blood pressure – a leading cause of
chronic kidney disease.
7. HOW WAS OUR PROJECT RELATED TO
CONVERGENCE
• The flow of content across multiple media
platforms.
• The cooperation between multiple media industries,
and the migratory behavior of media audiences who
would go almost anywhere in search of the kinds of
entertainment experiences they wanted.
• This circulation of media content - across different
media systems, competing media economies, and
national borders - depends heavily on the active
participation of the consumer.
• Convergence can be understood primarily as a
technological process - the bringing together of
multiple media functions within the same gadgets
and devices.
