WomenAntiCoup Report
(Since the beginning of the coup on third of July for the year2013 to 30th
June 2015)
Introduction
Two years have passed since the military coup that took place on July 3, 2013, and since the Military Junta of
Camp David robbed the Egyptian people of their freedom and seized power against the will of Egypt's youth.
The legitimacy for which the people have earnestly striven was lost. The coup leader has based his rule on
the blood of those who - since the revolution of January 25th - have sacrificed their lives for this afflicted
homeland. The crimes committed by the military in the wake of the coup d'etat continue to this day.
The Egyptian woman's sacrifices were part and parcel of the general movement of the people, and so she
had her share of subjection to the military's crushing oppression. The purest and most honorable of the
nation and the symbol of immeasurable tenderness and sacrifice, the innocent, chivalrous Egyptian woman
has suffered atrocious violations at the hands of the Egyptian military and police forces. Her life was
squandered on university campuses and on the pavements of Azhar Colleges. She was raped inside armored
police vans and prison cells and in the basements of police departments, while the perpetrators rest assured
they will never be held accountable.
The status of Egyptian women have long been shaped by external international laws concerning their human
rights, and internal customs and constitutions/treaties, both acting to ensure the status of women within
society and their security in all corners of their homeland. It is thought that the Egyptians women’s life is
secured and cannot be taken away from them, if this was to happen, it is expected that the law will
intervene to ensure justice. Furthermore it is known that the Egyptian women is rich in history, giving and
receiving she continues to make sacrifices throughout her life, with history as her witness. In her community
and abroad the Egyptian women is never known to abandon her human rights, always prepared to fight for
freedom and the right to live a dignified life, for her family, those she looks after and herself. She fights for
the most basic rights to be enforced by the state. However, if we look at the situation in Egypt we will see a
completely different situation, one where the citizens of Egypt including these historical women are left
unguarded. The current situation in Egypt means women are arrested, kidnapped, bribed, or in some cases
martyred due to false accusations. All of these cases have been documented since the military coup in July
2013. And even those who do not associate themselves with those peaceful protestors demanding their
human rights have found themselves in severe poverty, with desperate need for care.
In this report we present the violations that the Movement's Committees have observed and documented,
from kidnappings and detainment, to taking female hostages to pressure their relatives to turn themselves
in to the police, to extrajudicial killings and incidents of raping female students.
2
The movement has also enumerated incidents of female students expelled from their universities merely for
voicing their opinions and opposing the unjust, bloody coup that overstepped the Egyptian women's dignity
and all of their rights -- and executed them by military decree.

Important Statistics
Here, we shall initially summarize what has been documented in the feminine files over the
past two years of military rule that has been headed by Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. We have found
that the arrest files have not only constantly renewed, but have rather increased in a
frightful manner. We now have (77) detainees. (188) of them have been sentenced to
oppressive and tyrannous verdicts. The overall years of conviction: (789) years and three
months with a total of (1,933,555) bails. (1554) have been released. It should be noted that
the death sentence has reached two of the detainees: Mrs. Samia Shanan, from the village of
Kerdasa in the province of Giza, with a judgment in presence, and Mrs. Sondos Asem, from
the city of Mansoura in the province of Dakahlia, with a judgment in absence. One cannot
but mention the file concerned with the martyrs and how its list is endless. Up till now, they
have reached a sum of (105) martyr from different regions of Egypt. They were killed by the
military’s bullets, and thus stand as the seeds of sacrifice that cannot be done justice over
the ages.
In our country, even women are at risk; they are subject to kidnapping, enforced
disappearance, and severe torture with the tools of oppression. The number of
disappearances has reached a sum of (27). All but (5) have appeared after extended
absence, and we remain ignorant of where those (5) ladies are.
In these two years, girls and students have been transferred to military court with unrealistic
and shameful accusations. The number of girls transferred to military courts has reached a
sum of (15), and some have been judged indeed.
As for the casualties, the number is innumerable. It has gone beyond any logical sense; the
police’s mission is to chase students in the streets and alleys whether there is a
demonstration or not. So is the number of the dismissed from universities by an
administrative decision; innumerable. Observe how military orders have destroyed their
futures and crushed their hopes of an education!
3
Collectively, these are only a few statistics which the committees were able to document and
which we were informed of its details. In this comprehensive report, we shall display some of
the violations done by the military to the women of Egypt; not only girls and students but
even children! We place them in your hands as follows.
We offer here a summary of each section, which can later be read in greater detail under
each section:
Contents:
1. Enforced disappearances and detentions
2. Arrests and hostages
3. Trials and Arrests
4. Women Referred to Military Courts
5. Injuries and cases of violations
6. Cases of extrajudicial killings
7. Conclusion

First: Enforced disappearance cases
This case has made it apparent that the sheer increase in amount of disappearances of local
citizens has made it to breaking point, which has brought into vision several questions about
the cause of these strange disappearances. It has been evident that this legal crime of an
undertaking has roots within the military dictators. Of these cases, 27 have been confirmed
between 2013 to 2015, of whom are four young females who have not returned to their
family since. This includes innocent women who are strategically disappearing off the charts,
who have been subjected to severe sexual abuse and rape. Below are some detailed

These are some of the detailed reports about them:
First: Asama Khalif Shandeen
5
Asama Khalif Shandeen, at 26 years of age, from Sohag, she was working as a doctor in the
Women’s Health Hospital in Assiut. On April 18th, 2014, she was abducted from in front of
the hospital, according to witness accounts, her family and others searched extensively for
her in all areas they could possibly think of unfortunately they were unable to find her. On

Second: Hind Rashid Fawzy
Hind Rashid Fawzy, at the age of 19, student at college of law at Banha university, on
4/12/2014 Hind left her house to go to university however she did not return home. Her
father searched for her everywhere, in the police station, in hospitals however he was
unsuccessful in his search for her. Hind was kidnapped on her way to university, and her dad
thinks she was kidnapped from outside her university. Her father reported her missing at the
police station in Meeyt Gamar, her case number 13872, and her father is certain that the
authorities kidnapped her. Her father does not know where exactly where she is, she can be
in any prison or in secret detention centres.
******************************************************
Second: Arrests and hostages
In this file there are documents of the most brutal reports of human rights violations against
women, whereby Egyptian women are complete stripped of their dignity and any form of
honour. The forces of the military coup have become oppressors of voice of women, who
call upon the constitutional articles to ensure security and human rights. However the
owners of the laws have drafted their respective committees in 2014, to ensure the law
enables the arrests of innocent Egyptian women, completely removing them of all their
human rights. There have been documented incidents of Egyptian women having their hijabs
removed by force, tortured in police stations and security camps, and even in some cases
6
there has been reports of rape by the authorities. Women in Egypt living in a society where
such incidents of sexual assault and other violations of their human rights has the ability to
demolish their life and future prospects. These are no acts of Islam, which has put women on
such a high status throughout its existence.
In the file, we have names those who are in custody and some have already been sentences
in military courts during the military coups existence. We have further documents the
number of those in Egyptian prisons since the coup until late 2015, which has now arrived to
77cases of arbitrary detention carried out by security forces and the military coup against
women in Egypt.
*This is a report of one of those cases :-
AL-Azhar University students( Asmaa Hamdy Group )
On 10th June , a verdict was issued to postpone the case of Al-Azhar University students,
including Asmaa Hamdi, Alaa ElSayed, Rufidah Ibrahim Nasr, Afaf Ahmed Omar and Hanadi
Ahmed Mahmoud. It is worth mentioning the Court of Appeal, Nasr City Second, has
sentenced the students to 5 years in prison and a 100 thousand pounds fine. These students
were arrested on 24 December last year, on the background of random arrests by the
Egyptian police of female students from the campus of the University of Al-Azhar,
Yesterday's trials today are part of an appeal in the case known to the media as 'the case of
Asmaa Hamdi'. It is worth mentioning that the Court of Appeal, Nasr City Second, has
sentenced 5 female students in Al-Azhar University to 5 years in prison and a 100 thousand
pounds fine, in the case No. 7332 Nasr City Second 2013, appealed number 4804 to 2014
Nasr City Second.
Students who were arrested on 24 December last year, against the background of random
arrests of female students by the Egyptian police, from the campus of the University of Al-
Azhar, among them are Asmaa
Hamdi Alaa El-Sayed, Rufidah Ibrahim Nasr, Afaf Ahmed Omar and Hanadi Ahmed
Mahmoud. They were charged with many accusations amongst them: demonstrating
without permission, and carrying and possession of dangerous weapons and possession of
face veil, and the use of force and violence, as well as forced theft, and sabotage of private
and public property.
7
It is worth mentioning that the students have been subjected to severe beatings and
lynching during their arrest on campus, and even until they reached Nasr City Second police
station, and they experienced insults and beatings by the prison administration, until they
were deported to Qanater prison, where they were tortured on the 10th of June last year,
and even deported to Al-Ab'adeya prison in Damanhour.
*********************************************
Third: Trials and Arrests
Many of the women who were arbitrarily arrested got convicted by the so called "honourable judiciary". This
raises a question: how could there be conviction when there is no case nor witnesses?
we call on all legal and human rights organizations to take an action against those who have arrested,
tortured, and sexually assaulted women in Egypt.
The movement will provide all the reports and documentations of violations against Egyptian women in
hopes of having an investigation initiated by the organizations concerned with women's rights.
The documentation committee findings:
- Total number of imprisonment years: 789 years and 3 months
- Total of bails paid: 1,933,555 EGP
(188 women are given prison sentences with the total of 789 years in prison. )
We have reports that document and prove the authenticity of these unjust verdicts. The verdicts include
death penalty and the most known case is Samia Shanan, from kerdasa. Her exact situation:
**********************************************
Name: Samia Habib Mohamed Shanan
Age: 54 years old
Residence: Kerdasa, Giza.
Occupation: Housewife
She was arrested in an attempt to pressure her sons to turn themselves in which had
happened. However, she was not released afterwards and was transferred to AlQanater
prison.
8
*Arrest Details:
Around 8:30 pm, security forces stormed the house searching for her son, Tarek. When they
did not find him, they decided to arrest her instead. Her son Hassan tried to object to his
mother's arrest, so they arrested him as well. He was beaten up in the house by 6 officers,
then they took him to see the shops that his family owns getting smashed.
Samia Shanan and her son Hassan were forcibly disappeared for 3 days at Kerdasa police
station where they were subjected to all forms of torture. They tortured Hassan in front of
her then they threatened her with rape if she does not confess to the crimes she did not
commit. Amongst the crimes they wanted her to confess to was mutilating the body of an
officer who was killed at Kerdasa police station.
After 3 days of continuous torture and violation of detainees' and women rights, Shanan
confessed to the fabricated crimes.
Shanan's son testified that the confessions were obtained by pressure and torture. She
denied those confessions later and asserted that they were forced confessions obtained by
brutal pressure.
*Charges against her:
• Killing 13 police personnel and attempting to kill others
• Joining a banned group
• Possessing knives, guns and molotov cocktails.
• Occupying a police station, burning it and stealing its contents
• Attacking an officer
• Mutilating the corpse of the chief deputy of Kerdasa police station
*Violations against Shanan:
She was brutally tortured at central security forces camp. The torture included:
electrocution, verbal and physical assaults. Moreover, she was hanged to the wall by her
wrists. There are wounds and bruises all over her body from the brutal torture she was
subjected to. She is suffering from high blood pressure and her womb was amputated before
her arrested, yet her medicines were withheld. In addition, she is being subjected to
psychological torture: she is put with criminal detainees in the same cell with criminal
detainees and she gets verbally and physically assaulted during the visitations. The officers
keep telling her " when are you going to die?". She is also suffering along with all the other
detainees from the spread of insects and snakes.
9
*Conviction:
On December 2nd, 2014, the judge has referred her and 188 others to Mufti in order to
ratify their death sentence.
********************************************
Rasha Moneer
Age: 31 years old
Charges: Committing violence, joining a banned group and other fabricated crimes that any
political detainee gets charged with. The evidence included 7 bullets and a camera.

station and Al Qanater prison. Rasha is suffering from heart disease and her health condition
deteriorated after the physical assault, yet she was denied medical treatment. She has 2
girls: Malak (7 Years old) and Basmala (5 Years old).
Her husband, Abdeen, died at the gates of AlQanater prison when he went to visit her due to
exhaustion and the delayed arrival of the ambulance. Authorities refused to let her bid her
husband farewell or attend his funeral. 3 days after his death, Rasha's detention was
extended for 2 more months. After the court session, the police stormed her house arresting
her brother and sister but her sister was released later on. Her brother was and is still being
subjected to torture. Rasha's kids along with her sister's kids are staying at their
grandmother's house. However, her health condition is bad and she cannot take proper care
of them.
Current situation: Rasha was sentenced to life (25 years) in prison on August 8th, 2014 by
the judge Zakaria Abdulaziz.
********************************

with the criminal detainees.
Current situation: She was sentenced to life with her sister Rasha on August 8th,2014
*******************************
Fourth: Women Referred to Military Courts
In this section we present the number of women facing trial before military tribunals. Fifteen
women have been referred to military courts; judgments have been passed for some of
them, which indicates the current grave condition of the judiciary in Egypt.
Tragically, military transgressions have equally affected women as equally as men. Among
the women referred to military trials are students and minors; their charges only known to
the repressive authorities and no one else.
******************************************
Fifth: Injuries and violations
The military still brutally opresses and assaults women in every way from detention and
solitary confinement to torture, resulting in serious injuries putting some of them in critical
states. In this file the numerous injuries commited by the hands of police forces towards
students will be shown.
Throughout the past two years, there were ninteen cases of women injured by live bullets
fired by police forces, including Asmaa Gamaal (also known as Asmaa Johaina),
Asmaa Gamaal a 19 year old first-year student in the Alexandria University who had her left
leg amputated at a hospital due shot at by a police officer with buckshot on 21-11-2014 and
then assaulted by thugs led by a man named Ali Zabady and state security officer Ali
Mubarak who attacked her injured leg. She explains that she had to undergo three surgeries
to amputate her leg above the knee, and stressed that she won't press any charges as
ultimately she will not get her rights in the current juduciary system under the controll of the
11
current military regime, but expressed her happiness that "her leg is awaiting her in
paradise". She added: "We are a generation raised to struggle for freedom in the sake of
God, and we will not allow anyone to steal from us what we gained in the revolution of
January" stressing that she will continue to participate in demonstrations and protests until
the end of the military coup.
She was engaged a few days after the incident and travelled to Germany alone for treatment
and an artificial leg. Her great psychological condition and persistence is seen throught her
communications with media such as TV channels and her social media accounts. Her friend
witnessed her mother's courage and patience when she heard of the news.

**************************************
Sixth: Cases of extrajudicial killings
The rest of the files are dedicated to the women martyrs who were killed with the police or army, 105 killed
without a reason or crime. Our duty as (legaan tahskfrqwih) is to observe each case of murder outside of the
law deliberately and methodically carried out by the army. These cases have been so common that people
are starting to get de-sensitized to them. One of those cases is Sondos Abu Bakr, a 15 year old student from
the city of Asafra and the first martyr in the anniversary of the January 25th protest in 2015. She was
participating in a peaceful anti-military march after the Friday prayers, demanding for freedom of the
country, and immediately security forces raided the march and fired tear gas, followed by buckshot that the
protesters described as "raining over their heads", which was the cause of her martyrdom.
***************************************************
Second Report:
This report is concerned with one of Sinai women. What happened to this woman is a proof
of the catastrophic situation in Sinai that includes mass killing and forced evictions. This
woman was killed by the army along with her baby at a checkpoint , then their bodies were
burnt to hide any trances of the heinous crime.
Amal AbuFereeg and her baby Rehal Mordy Abu Fa'm were killed by army personnel and their bodies were
burnt.
Amal Mortada AbuFereeh and her 6 months old baby are from Sinai. She resides in Moqata'a village in North
Sinai. She took her son to the doctor to check up on him. Little did she know that this would be the last time
she embraces him as what followed was horrendous. The army was firing randomly at a civilian car in a
checkpoint and amongst the dead was Amal Mortada and her baby.
Amal and her newborn baby were randomly killed in North Sinai. Thus to cover up the crime , they decided
14
to burn the car with everyone inside. The car and the bodies were completely burnt.
We wanted to include the video of the burnt bodies that show the level of the catastrophe but it seems the
website has taken it down as it is hard for the brain and humanity to process it.
May God bless our martyrs. Their blood will never go in vain!
*********************************************

Women Anticoup Report - 2 years after the military coup

  • 1. Violations against Egyptian Women 2 Years after the military coup from July 2013 to July 2015 Women Anticoup Movement Report
  • 2. 1 WomenAntiCoup‫اإلنقـالب‬ ‫ضد‬ ‫نساء‬ ‫حركة‬ . WomenAntiCoup Report (Since the beginning of the coup on third of July for the year2013 to 30th June 2015) Introduction Two years have passed since the military coup that took place on July 3, 2013, and since the Military Junta of Camp David robbed the Egyptian people of their freedom and seized power against the will of Egypt's youth. The legitimacy for which the people have earnestly striven was lost. The coup leader has based his rule on the blood of those who - since the revolution of January 25th - have sacrificed their lives for this afflicted homeland. The crimes committed by the military in the wake of the coup d'etat continue to this day. The Egyptian woman's sacrifices were part and parcel of the general movement of the people, and so she had her share of subjection to the military's crushing oppression. The purest and most honorable of the nation and the symbol of immeasurable tenderness and sacrifice, the innocent, chivalrous Egyptian woman has suffered atrocious violations at the hands of the Egyptian military and police forces. Her life was squandered on university campuses and on the pavements of Azhar Colleges. She was raped inside armored police vans and prison cells and in the basements of police departments, while the perpetrators rest assured they will never be held accountable. The status of Egyptian women have long been shaped by external international laws concerning their human rights, and internal customs and constitutions/treaties, both acting to ensure the status of women within society and their security in all corners of their homeland. It is thought that the Egyptians women’s life is secured and cannot be taken away from them, if this was to happen, it is expected that the law will intervene to ensure justice. Furthermore it is known that the Egyptian women is rich in history, giving and receiving she continues to make sacrifices throughout her life, with history as her witness. In her community and abroad the Egyptian women is never known to abandon her human rights, always prepared to fight for freedom and the right to live a dignified life, for her family, those she looks after and herself. She fights for the most basic rights to be enforced by the state. However, if we look at the situation in Egypt we will see a completely different situation, one where the citizens of Egypt including these historical women are left unguarded. The current situation in Egypt means women are arrested, kidnapped, bribed, or in some cases martyred due to false accusations. All of these cases have been documented since the military coup in July 2013. And even those who do not associate themselves with those peaceful protestors demanding their human rights have found themselves in severe poverty, with desperate need for care. In this report we present the violations that the Movement's Committees have observed and documented, from kidnappings and detainment, to taking female hostages to pressure their relatives to turn themselves in to the police, to extrajudicial killings and incidents of raping female students.
  • 3. 2 The movement has also enumerated incidents of female students expelled from their universities merely for voicing their opinions and opposing the unjust, bloody coup that overstepped the Egyptian women's dignity and all of their rights -- and executed them by military decree. ************************************** Important Statistics Here, we shall initially summarize what has been documented in the feminine files over the past two years of military rule that has been headed by Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. We have found that the arrest files have not only constantly renewed, but have rather increased in a frightful manner. We now have (77) detainees. (188) of them have been sentenced to oppressive and tyrannous verdicts. The overall years of conviction: (789) years and three months with a total of (1,933,555) bails. (1554) have been released. It should be noted that the death sentence has reached two of the detainees: Mrs. Samia Shanan, from the village of Kerdasa in the province of Giza, with a judgment in presence, and Mrs. Sondos Asem, from the city of Mansoura in the province of Dakahlia, with a judgment in absence. One cannot but mention the file concerned with the martyrs and how its list is endless. Up till now, they have reached a sum of (105) martyr from different regions of Egypt. They were killed by the military’s bullets, and thus stand as the seeds of sacrifice that cannot be done justice over the ages. In our country, even women are at risk; they are subject to kidnapping, enforced disappearance, and severe torture with the tools of oppression. The number of disappearances has reached a sum of (27). All but (5) have appeared after extended absence, and we remain ignorant of where those (5) ladies are. In these two years, girls and students have been transferred to military court with unrealistic and shameful accusations. The number of girls transferred to military courts has reached a sum of (15), and some have been judged indeed. As for the casualties, the number is innumerable. It has gone beyond any logical sense; the police’s mission is to chase students in the streets and alleys whether there is a demonstration or not. So is the number of the dismissed from universities by an administrative decision; innumerable. Observe how military orders have destroyed their futures and crushed their hopes of an education!
  • 4. 3 Collectively, these are only a few statistics which the committees were able to document and which we were informed of its details. In this comprehensive report, we shall display some of the violations done by the military to the women of Egypt; not only girls and students but even children! We place them in your hands as follows. We offer here a summary of each section, which can later be read in greater detail under each section: Contents: 1. Enforced disappearances and detentions 2. Arrests and hostages 3. Trials and Arrests 4. Women Referred to Military Courts 5. Injuries and cases of violations 6. Cases of extrajudicial killings 7. Conclusion ******************************************************* First: Enforced disappearance cases This case has made it apparent that the sheer increase in amount of disappearances of local citizens has made it to breaking point, which has brought into vision several questions about the cause of these strange disappearances. It has been evident that this legal crime of an undertaking has roots within the military dictators. Of these cases, 27 have been confirmed between 2013 to 2015, of whom are four young females who have not returned to their family since. This includes innocent women who are strategically disappearing off the charts, who have been subjected to severe sexual abuse and rape. Below are some detailed occurrences of the evidently-planned and targeted disappearance of some of the victims: - *In 2014, 7 cases have been confirmed :
  • 5. 4 1-Menna allah Gamal Mansour 2-Hanan Moursi Mouhamed 3-Aliaa tarek alsayed 4-Hend rashed fawzy 5-Amira mouhamed Hamdan 6-Ola Abd Elhakim mouhamed saied 7-Asmaa khalaf shandeen *In 2015, 23 cases have been confirmed : 1-Rofayda mouhamed and her mother rokya sayed ramadan 2-Rasha mouhamed saad 3-Rasha moustafa dahrog`s mother and daughter 4-Mayada 5-Sanaa Abdo 6-Aya mahmoud hanafy mahmoud 7-Fawzya 8-mouhamed ahmed al sayed`s wife 9-mariam and khadija , assia mouhamed raafet and their mother azza 10-samar hassan mahmoud mouhamed 11-marwa 12-nada ezzat 13-hanan shaaban 14-rana abd elkhaleq deras 15-fatma abd elmohsen *All of them returned to their parents, except for four cases : 1- ‫فوزى‬ ‫راشد‬ ‫هند‬1-Hend rashed fawzy 2- ‫شندين‬ ‫خلف‬ ‫أسماء‬2-Asmaa khalaf shandeen 3- ‫السعيد‬ ‫محمد‬ ‫الحكيم‬ ‫عبد‬ ‫عال‬3-Ola Abd Elhakim mouhamed saied 4- ‫المحسن‬ ‫عبد‬ ‫فاطمة‬ 4-fatma abd elmohsen ************************************************************* These are some of the detailed reports about them: First: Asama Khalif Shandeen
  • 6. 5 Asama Khalif Shandeen, at 26 years of age, from Sohag, she was working as a doctor in the Women’s Health Hospital in Assiut. On April 18th, 2014, she was abducted from in front of the hospital, according to witness accounts, her family and others searched extensively for her in all areas they could possibly think of unfortunately they were unable to find her. On 19th April 2014, her family they went to the police station to report the abduction of their daughter, number 2536, after that her brother received a call and he was informed that Asama was with the authorities. In Cairo, on 28th/06/2014 they submitted a communication to the Attorney General of Assiut number 47 and a communication to the Attorney General number. Until now she has not come back and there has been no communication with the family. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Second: Hind Rashid Fawzy Hind Rashid Fawzy, at the age of 19, student at college of law at Banha university, on 4/12/2014 Hind left her house to go to university however she did not return home. Her father searched for her everywhere, in the police station, in hospitals however he was unsuccessful in his search for her. Hind was kidnapped on her way to university, and her dad thinks she was kidnapped from outside her university. Her father reported her missing at the police station in Meeyt Gamar, her case number 13872, and her father is certain that the authorities kidnapped her. Her father does not know where exactly where she is, she can be in any prison or in secret detention centres. ****************************************************** Second: Arrests and hostages In this file there are documents of the most brutal reports of human rights violations against women, whereby Egyptian women are complete stripped of their dignity and any form of honour. The forces of the military coup have become oppressors of voice of women, who call upon the constitutional articles to ensure security and human rights. However the owners of the laws have drafted their respective committees in 2014, to ensure the law enables the arrests of innocent Egyptian women, completely removing them of all their human rights. There have been documented incidents of Egyptian women having their hijabs removed by force, tortured in police stations and security camps, and even in some cases
  • 7. 6 there has been reports of rape by the authorities. Women in Egypt living in a society where such incidents of sexual assault and other violations of their human rights has the ability to demolish their life and future prospects. These are no acts of Islam, which has put women on such a high status throughout its existence. In the file, we have names those who are in custody and some have already been sentences in military courts during the military coups existence. We have further documents the number of those in Egyptian prisons since the coup until late 2015, which has now arrived to 77cases of arbitrary detention carried out by security forces and the military coup against women in Egypt. *This is a report of one of those cases :- AL-Azhar University students( Asmaa Hamdy Group ) On 10th June , a verdict was issued to postpone the case of Al-Azhar University students, including Asmaa Hamdi, Alaa ElSayed, Rufidah Ibrahim Nasr, Afaf Ahmed Omar and Hanadi Ahmed Mahmoud. It is worth mentioning the Court of Appeal, Nasr City Second, has sentenced the students to 5 years in prison and a 100 thousand pounds fine. These students were arrested on 24 December last year, on the background of random arrests by the Egyptian police of female students from the campus of the University of Al-Azhar, Yesterday's trials today are part of an appeal in the case known to the media as 'the case of Asmaa Hamdi'. It is worth mentioning that the Court of Appeal, Nasr City Second, has sentenced 5 female students in Al-Azhar University to 5 years in prison and a 100 thousand pounds fine, in the case No. 7332 Nasr City Second 2013, appealed number 4804 to 2014 Nasr City Second. Students who were arrested on 24 December last year, against the background of random arrests of female students by the Egyptian police, from the campus of the University of Al- Azhar, among them are Asmaa Hamdi Alaa El-Sayed, Rufidah Ibrahim Nasr, Afaf Ahmed Omar and Hanadi Ahmed Mahmoud. They were charged with many accusations amongst them: demonstrating without permission, and carrying and possession of dangerous weapons and possession of face veil, and the use of force and violence, as well as forced theft, and sabotage of private and public property.
  • 8. 7 It is worth mentioning that the students have been subjected to severe beatings and lynching during their arrest on campus, and even until they reached Nasr City Second police station, and they experienced insults and beatings by the prison administration, until they were deported to Qanater prison, where they were tortured on the 10th of June last year, and even deported to Al-Ab'adeya prison in Damanhour. ********************************************* Third: Trials and Arrests Many of the women who were arbitrarily arrested got convicted by the so called "honourable judiciary". This raises a question: how could there be conviction when there is no case nor witnesses? we call on all legal and human rights organizations to take an action against those who have arrested, tortured, and sexually assaulted women in Egypt. The movement will provide all the reports and documentations of violations against Egyptian women in hopes of having an investigation initiated by the organizations concerned with women's rights. The documentation committee findings: - Total number of imprisonment years: 789 years and 3 months - Total of bails paid: 1,933,555 EGP (188 women are given prison sentences with the total of 789 years in prison. ) We have reports that document and prove the authenticity of these unjust verdicts. The verdicts include death penalty and the most known case is Samia Shanan, from kerdasa. Her exact situation: ********************************************** Name: Samia Habib Mohamed Shanan Age: 54 years old Residence: Kerdasa, Giza. Occupation: Housewife She was arrested in an attempt to pressure her sons to turn themselves in which had happened. However, she was not released afterwards and was transferred to AlQanater prison.
  • 9. 8 *Arrest Details: Around 8:30 pm, security forces stormed the house searching for her son, Tarek. When they did not find him, they decided to arrest her instead. Her son Hassan tried to object to his mother's arrest, so they arrested him as well. He was beaten up in the house by 6 officers, then they took him to see the shops that his family owns getting smashed. Samia Shanan and her son Hassan were forcibly disappeared for 3 days at Kerdasa police station where they were subjected to all forms of torture. They tortured Hassan in front of her then they threatened her with rape if she does not confess to the crimes she did not commit. Amongst the crimes they wanted her to confess to was mutilating the body of an officer who was killed at Kerdasa police station. After 3 days of continuous torture and violation of detainees' and women rights, Shanan confessed to the fabricated crimes. Shanan's son testified that the confessions were obtained by pressure and torture. She denied those confessions later and asserted that they were forced confessions obtained by brutal pressure. *Charges against her: • Killing 13 police personnel and attempting to kill others • Joining a banned group • Possessing knives, guns and molotov cocktails. • Occupying a police station, burning it and stealing its contents • Attacking an officer • Mutilating the corpse of the chief deputy of Kerdasa police station *Violations against Shanan: She was brutally tortured at central security forces camp. The torture included: electrocution, verbal and physical assaults. Moreover, she was hanged to the wall by her wrists. There are wounds and bruises all over her body from the brutal torture she was subjected to. She is suffering from high blood pressure and her womb was amputated before her arrested, yet her medicines were withheld. In addition, she is being subjected to psychological torture: she is put with criminal detainees in the same cell with criminal detainees and she gets verbally and physically assaulted during the visitations. The officers keep telling her " when are you going to die?". She is also suffering along with all the other detainees from the spread of insects and snakes.
  • 10. 9 *Conviction: On December 2nd, 2014, the judge has referred her and 188 others to Mufti in order to ratify their death sentence. ******************************************** Rasha Moneer Age: 31 years old Charges: Committing violence, joining a banned group and other fabricated crimes that any political detainee gets charged with. The evidence included 7 bullets and a camera. Violations against her: Rasha and her sister were physically assaulted at Ain Shams police station and Al Qanater prison. Rasha is suffering from heart disease and her health condition deteriorated after the physical assault, yet she was denied medical treatment. She has 2 girls: Malak (7 Years old) and Basmala (5 Years old). Her husband, Abdeen, died at the gates of AlQanater prison when he went to visit her due to exhaustion and the delayed arrival of the ambulance. Authorities refused to let her bid her husband farewell or attend his funeral. 3 days after his death, Rasha's detention was extended for 2 more months. After the court session, the police stormed her house arresting her brother and sister but her sister was released later on. Her brother was and is still being subjected to torture. Rasha's kids along with her sister's kids are staying at their grandmother's house. However, her health condition is bad and she cannot take proper care of them. Current situation: Rasha was sentenced to life (25 years) in prison on August 8th, 2014 by the judge Zakaria Abdulaziz. ******************************** Hend Moneer Age: 37 years old Charges: possessing a weapon and frightening citizens. Date of Arrest: 16/08/2013 Violations against her: She was hit on her face at AlHada'ek police station which caused her face to swell and there were bruises on her body. Then there was another physical assault at
  • 11. 10 AlQanater prison where she was beaten up until she fainted and there were several bruises all over her body. Moreover, her belongings were burnt and she was put in the same cell with the criminal detainees. Current situation: She was sentenced to life with her sister Rasha on August 8th,2014 ******************************* Fourth: Women Referred to Military Courts In this section we present the number of women facing trial before military tribunals. Fifteen women have been referred to military courts; judgments have been passed for some of them, which indicates the current grave condition of the judiciary in Egypt. Tragically, military transgressions have equally affected women as equally as men. Among the women referred to military trials are students and minors; their charges only known to the repressive authorities and no one else. ****************************************** Fifth: Injuries and violations The military still brutally opresses and assaults women in every way from detention and solitary confinement to torture, resulting in serious injuries putting some of them in critical states. In this file the numerous injuries commited by the hands of police forces towards students will be shown. Throughout the past two years, there were ninteen cases of women injured by live bullets fired by police forces, including Asmaa Gamaal (also known as Asmaa Johaina), Asmaa Gamaal a 19 year old first-year student in the Alexandria University who had her left leg amputated at a hospital due shot at by a police officer with buckshot on 21-11-2014 and then assaulted by thugs led by a man named Ali Zabady and state security officer Ali Mubarak who attacked her injured leg.
