◦ Actual excuse:(rationalization) used to justify
putting the task off

procrastination, avoid these pitfalls
◦ Guilt trip: looking for an answer in the
goodness of the procrastinator
◦ Simple answer: never one simple answer for
procrastination
◦ Assuming you know reason: many influences
on behavior prevent you from narrowing it
down

Look at your self honestly
Reasons involve difficult thoughts and
feelings
Examples:
◦ Lack of self confidence
◦ Low frustration tolerance
◦ Hostility

Difficult situations put pressure on
procrastinators
Situations can include excess homework,
exams, term papers, and class
presentations
Non- Academic reasons for putting off
school work: peer pressure, TV, Movies,
Concerts
8. Taking Responsibility
Quit rationalizing and work toward change
Set goals for each day
◦ Make goals accomplishable
◦ Make them challenging
◦ Create both overall goals and minor goals
9. Time Management
Create a plan for your actions, not just
school work
Create checklists
Brake tasks into small less menacing
pieces
Set time tables/ deadlines for work to be
done
◦ Should be before task is actually due

Don’t get discouraged by failed attempts
Keep track of progress
Build on accomplishments
Create routines
Tell yourself you can do it!
