Music Video: Genre Research.
Dancing with Myself is a Punk - Rock song released in 1980. Punk rock is a rock music
genre that developed between 1974 and 1976 in the United Kingdom, United States and
Australia. Rooted in garage rock and other forms of what is now known as “protopunk”
music, punk rock bands eschewed perceived excesses of mainstream 1970s rock. Punk
bands created fast, hard-edged music, typically with short songs, stripped-down
instrumentation, and often political, anti-establishment lyrics. Punk embraces a DIY ethic;
many bands self-produced recordings and distributed them through informal channels.
The most well known punk bands come from the 70s, including The Sex Pistols and The
Ramones. By the beginning of the 1980s, faster, more aggressive styles such as hardcore
and Oi! had become the predominant mode of punk rock.
Musicians identifying with or inspired by punk also pursued a broad range of other
variations, giving rise to post-punk and the alternative rock movement.

Punks in the early 1980s.

There Punk fashion varies a lot for
different types of Punk for different times,
Punk rock was an intentional rebuttal of the perceived excess and pretension found in
mainstream music (or even mainstream culture as a whole), and early punk artists' fashion
was defiantly anti-materialistic. Generally unkempt, often short hairstyles replaced the
long-hair hippie look and the usually elaborate 1970s rock/disco styles.
In the United States, dirty, simple clothes - ranging from the T-shirt/jeans/leather jacket
Ramones look to the low-class, second-hand "dress" clothes of acts like the band
Television or Patti Smith- were preferred over the expensive or colorful clothing popular in
the disco scene.
The main shoe worn by Punks were either Converse or Doc Martin boots, some early
Punks even wore the Nazi swastika for shock value.
The Punk subculture appeared in the United Kingdom, United States and Australia in the
mid 1970s, which region it originated from exactly has been a
controversial debate amongst the Punk movement and to
this day it is unknown which region is originated from.
Punk gigs are usually underground, less popular ones
(minus the famous Punk bands such as The Sex Pistols)
and mainly consist of a small venue packed full of fans.

The Punk lifestyle is usually seen as one that rebels against
the system as a major theme that runs with Punks is
anarchism. They are also concerned with concepts such as
individualism and free-thought, and sometimes participate in direct action such as
protesting, squatting, and vandalism.
