2. My Aims
My main aims as a potential president for the ULS can be
categorize onto four different levels; firstly as a single individual
within the ULS, then as a group of law students within the ULS,
followed by as a single group, which is the law society itself and
finally as an organization in the society.
1. As a single individual within the ULS
My aim is to maximize individual welfare; to listen to
students’ needs and provide with them what they want.
(i) Printing credits
In the survey conducted for the election task, many
students have demanded printing credits. However,
it may not be easy to negotiate with CUHK for a
certain amount of free printing quotas provided for
every law student. Therefore, one possible method
is to consider what medicine students have been
doing for printing. It is that we will collect from
each student a subscription fee of about $300, and
we will print lecture notes for them (we will only
print for them certain materials, to be discussed
after executive members are finalized.) outside
CUHK for a cheaper price ($0.1 instead of $0.3 per
paper, there may also be discounts as the amount of
2
3. printing will be enormous.) during weekends and
distribute the notes to them every Monday.
(ii) Stationery selling
Many students would like to have stationery selling
service provided by the ULS. We can achieve this
by purchasing cheap stationeries from outside
CUHK (To Kwa Wan in the case of medical
society) and sell it to law students for a fair price.
General stationery selling will be held once a week,
but students can still purchase from executive
members of ULS on request in case there are
urgent needs during lectures.
(iii) Food and drinks during breaks
Another issue students are concerned about is that
they do not have enough time to get to the tuck
shop on LG/F to buy food or drinks during breaks.
One possible method is that to negotiate with the
tuck shop owners and ask them to set up a small
booth outside lecture theatre 7 just selling drinks
and snacks. Another possible way which is more
likely to work is that we can purchase some stocks
of food and drinks from the tuck shop in advance
and re-sell them outside LT7 so that students can
get refreshments instantly.

4. (iv) Secondhand Book Sale
One of the main problems student encountered
during this year’s book sale is that a huge crowd of
students was stucked in the society room thus
students outside the room could not manage to get
in and when they do, most books have already been
sold. One possible solution is to sell these
secondhand books in a larger area such as areas
outside lecture theatres or to conduct it online.
2. As a group of law students within the ULS
My aim is to organize both academic-based and
recreational activities to students so that they can actually
work hard and play hard. Another aim is to enhance co-
operation and communication between students to achieve
a sense of belonging and sense of unity between them.
(i) Orientation Camps
Students start to know each other every year in
orientation camps. However, some freshers may be
too shy and hence failed in creating a bond with
their group mates. As meeting new friends is vital in
helping freshers to get used to university life, it is
really important that they are making new friends.
Therefore one suggestion to improve this is to put a
“spy” (year 2 students) who pretends to be a fresher
into each group to mix the freshers well so that they
4
5. could be led by experienced students and enjoy
themselves.
Target: Year 1 students
(ii) Study and discussion groups
At the start of each academic year, year 1 students
may not know each other well and therefore some
students may not be able to find a “revision buddy”
to discuss about their assignments and courses.
Thus, discussion groups can be assigned to them for
the first month until they get used to the learning
environment and have their own friends to study
with.
Target: Year 1 students
(iii) Court trips
Court trips may be organized so that students can
actually experience what it is like when a case is in
trial and understand court structures which can then
be related back to their lectures.
Target: Year 1&2 students
(iv) Book sharing session
There are many law books in the law library and it
is difficult to choose which one to borrow.
Therefore students can share law books they find
useful to other students and express their views on
5
6. that book, fictions about law can also be
recommended to students.
Target: All 4 years
(v) LLB cycling team/ Bike trip to Buddha on 1st Oct
As law students are continually under stress, it is
important to give chances for them to relax. Apart
from common sports such as football and basketball,
cycling is also a relaxing sport. Members can
practice in Shatin on a weekly basis and when they
are ready, trips going to Disneyland from Tung
Chung or cycling to the Buddha to have vegetarian
meal can be organized!
Target: All 4 years
(vi) Talent Show
Talent shows of past years have only been limited
to LLB students. However, as there are not enough
participants in the JD programme for them to
organize a talent show, we can co-organize this
activity together so that more people can enjoy our
students’ talents. This also give us a chance to meet
JD students so that we can share our experiences
about our law courses.
Target: All 4 years + JD students
6
7. 3. As a society in CUHK
My aim is to enhance the reputation of the ULS and to
provide with people a sense of professionalism when they
mention about the ULS.
(i) Welfare products
Products which can resemble students as a group
under the Faculty of Law will be produced and sold
to law students. This includes computer bags,
jackets, ties, badges, etc. We aim to provide
products which are only designed for law students
so that a sense of honor is created and also these
products can symbolize us as a professional union
in which our members are united.
(ii) Joint-Universities legal conference
The three universities which provide law courses
will organize a legal conference which last for 3-4
days in Easter. Workshops will be organized on
debating skills and interview techniques. Barristers
and solicitors will also be invited to share their
careers with students. Moreover, students will have
a chance to have discussions on latest legal issues
happening around the world!
7
8. 4. As an organization in the society
My aim is to raise public awareness on our society that we
are not just focusing on our studies and future careers but
also aware of what is happening around the world and
contribute to the public with our knowledge and be an
important part of the society.
(i) Voluntary works co-organized with St. James'
Settlement
It is our responsible to serve the public, especially
helping those in need. Although we still cannot give
professional legal assistance to people, we can still
help them in other ways such as visiting old people.
(ii) Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2014
Law students can participate in this meaningful
event as a group. By joining the marathon, not only
they can raise money for charity, but it is also
beneficial for their health! Students may also have a
chance to win the most supportive group award if
there are more than 100 people participating!

10. Conclusion
By organizing these activities, I hope that students can build a
sense of belonging and unity towards CUHK and the faculty of
law, that they know they are studying the right subject at the
right place. I also hope that they can identify their future career
path and work hard towards it; to persist in whatever they are
doing and never give up. Finally, I wish that by participating in
all sorts of voluntary works, students can actually learn how to
serve others by heart and to uphold your own beliefs no matter
what happens.
All these can be concluded with three words,
UNITY, SEDULITY and SINCERITY.
