Introduction:In the ancient world, writers such as Aristotle, Cicero, and
Quintilian were some of Greek And roman practitioners of
the art of rhetoric or persuasion. Its roots are deep. Its
heritage is oral. Non-Written communication is known as
oral communication.
For example speaking, delivering lecture, reading,
interviewing etc are some forms of oral communication.
The sentence structure of oral communication are simple.
This medium uses shorter words and shorter sentences. It
brings prompt feed back.
The Chapter Consist of Two
Basic Parts:
 Strategies for Improving Oral Presentation
 Strategies for Reducing Stage fright
Strategies for Improving Oral
Presentation:
To make our presentation meaningful, we need a
strategy. This section takes us through the steps
needed to be effective in oral communication.
 Steps for Preparing Oral Presentation
 Kinds of Oral Presentation
 Ways of Delivering Oral Message
 Strategies for Using an Effective Oral Delivery
 Strategies for Effective Non-Verbal
 Delivery
Steps for Preparing Effective
Oral Presentation:
 Determine the Purpose
 Analyze the Audience & Occasion
 Select the main Ideas for the Message
 Research the Topic
 Organize Data and Write Draft
 Create Visual Aids
 Rehearse the Talk
Determine the Purpose:
We communicate to produce a result. We wish
something to occur as a result of our words. On the
macro level those goals are:
 To inform or instruct
 To persuade
 To entertain
Occasion:
 Whether one writes or speaks, the message must be
adapted to the audience. If you talk within your
organization, you will have some idea about who and
how many people will be in the audience.
 If all audience members have same occupation then
we can use more technical expressions and
illustrations (Jargon).
Message:
 We should select the main idea for the message
firstly. Then we should include the information which
supports our main idea.
Research the Topic: It is obvious that we
 will not possess all information relating our central
theme.
 Thus, we will collect all the facts and data information
required to complete research on the topic
Draft:
After collecting all the data we should organize
it in proper form as we have to present in front of the
audience and after that write the draft. This include the
following:
 Introduction
 Body
 Summary or Conclusion
Create Visual Aids:
Some presentations do
 not require visuals. It would be odd to include an over
head of the major dates in the career of a retiree.
 It would be odd if the visual is required and we do not
present it.
Rehearse the Talk:
 Always imagine that audience is in front of you. This is
only possible if we make rehearsals many times and
revise important points
Oral Presentation:
There are four kinds of oral presentation
 Extemporaneous
 Reading
 Memorization
 Impromptu
Strategies for an Effective Oral
Delivery:
 Pitch
 Rate
 Volume
 Vocal Quality
 Pronunciation
Strategies for Reducing
Stage fright
 Being at ease, or simply give the impression of being at
ease which is difficult for most people.
 Few people can approach an audience without some
 feeling of discomfort.
 Pickup any newspaper, read
 Many resist and fear the idea
Signs of Discomfort:
 Signs of discomfort are usually experienced.
 The heart rate increases and the blood pressure &
body temperature rises and some say their mouth feel
dry.
 Look carefully at each of the above stated points. You
may be aware of these things but they are not obvious
to the audience.
