TPCK refers to technological pedagogical content knowledge, which builds on pedagogical content knowledge by focusing on how teachers interpret subject matter and represent it for learners in different ways. Teachers with TPCK understand the affordances and constraints of technologies and how to apply pedagogy and content knowledge when integrating technology. Problems in integrating technology include functional fixedness which inhibits creativity, as well as the protean and unstable nature of digital technologies which require flexibility from teachers.
