- NLP is the method that John and Richard came up with creative strategies to help people make changes quickly and easily by giving them a set of tools to be able to get stuff done. .
- we have seen that NLP is a model for human behavior change. So lets look at the areas in which it has been used for positive change and successful outcomes.
- Strategies - Successful Learning Outcomes Teachers can help their students model those who are successful in acquiring new understandings and knowledge and become more efficient at assimilating concepts and ideas.
- Strategies for winning. Sports coaches can help their athletes be the best at what they do be eliciting what works and forgetting about the rest. Techniques include: Mental rehearsal of perfect practice scenarios. Tool box: Develop self-confidence and a way to shut out negative internal dialogue and focus on the task in hand. Amnesia, Swish pattern, New behaviour generator and fast phobia cure. All these techniques encompass the attitudes and principles of NLP.
- Modelling strategies for creativity from people that already to a good job. Involves visual capacity - ability to create a stream of images that lead to a successful outcome - as with the Athletes. The sequence in which those images are placed are referred to as a Strategy. Strategy Elicitation - involves asking questions that enable the practitioner to map the structures of how someone is thinking and try it on for themselves. This is called Modelling. ....(.flip to next slide)
- Introduction to video content... Modelling Artists..... Richard is seen explaining what he did to elicit the strategy of an artist who was doing something well that Richard wanted to do himself. Asks question of a London artist: RB: "How do you get the picture that's across the river on to the canvas?" (What do you want to know) The artist now has to do something in their head to access information in order to give an answer.... ... In capturing the answer Richard is looking for specific information other than the verbal words..... did you notice what RB did right after he described how he asked the questions? ...... (Gina looks at responses of delegates in the room in response to that question) .RB.. describes sensory specific and observable changes.... pupil dilation .... etc.. he mirrors their body language...wide eyes and tone of voice.... 'I ...... don't. ...' Information.. but not enough.. so he goes in for more....... Isn't this you?.... Compels the artist to describe and give him the full details of how he has structured his thinking.... big hand in sky attached to wire on his on hand.... Richard now has the strategy and can use it himself to get better results than he was getting using his own mental devices.....
- By observing another person's behaviour and knowing what to look for when you do.....will enable you to monitor what you need to do differently so that you can communicate effectively with others. Align your communication with desired outcomes - (what do you want to achieve in your communication with this person?) Adjust your own behaviour to ensure the person/s you are communicating with have a good time and is motivating them stay with you. use the skills of NLP to design a strategy for being creative in the moment... Good way for you to know if what you are doing is producing the right results or if there is an opportunity for creative thinking to happen.... ___________ One of the most important ingredients that binds this all together is to believe in your own ability to succeed... If you are not confident about your outcomes they will feel it... and all the above will not apply.... Who here can think of a situation in which a belief in your ability to succeed would be useful?....
- Context is everything - without that the rest has no meaning. Easy - You are the only person who can change you..... you can be influenced by others in the context of allowing them to do so.... you either accept or reject what is on offer. So even thought it might look like someone is making you feel a certain way - NLP can give you the tools to feel differently in spite of what is happening in relation to the other person. There are step by step pragmatic processes that if followed and experimented with can produce amazing results easily. Learning - NLP uses the ability of people to learn and practice certain skills, behavoours and attitudes...it just does so in a way that is useful and practical for getting what you want to acheive done.
- Consider the person who has to make amends within a relationship - without knowing the dynamics of that energy the behaviours would not make sense. We all respond to people we know differently, that is because the people we know are in a different place psychologically - so knowing how to adapt your behaviour to suit the situation is profound and essential - the context in which we communicate is forever changing as we live out our daily lives. People respond to what they know is happening around them at the time and context is the space in which those behaviours happen.

Brief outline of how learning is structured...... Learning something new can be a scary thing for adults... (grown ups). Excerpt from ISTE Presentation In many situations we often assume that we know what a person is thinking and think that responding to them is going to help them feel better or change the way they think about a situation. But often we get it wrong and don’t know how help the person with what we have got to offer. So NLP is the piece that helps us make a stand when it come to knowing what to do with the knowledge that gives us the insight as to how to make the person be more resourceful and effective in their own life. Making the connecting between what is happening in their minds and what is happening in reality can often take the notion of ‘the map is not the territory’ to a whole new level. Here we see a ‘map’ of the second life orientation island and for many coming into second life for the first time can be a daunting prospect as it requires that they first allow themselves to get into a situation where they are unfamiliar with their surroundings and can literally be a disorientating experience. In the same way a person who is used to navigating their own internal landscape, the prospect of changing can be a daunting thing particularly as they don’t have access to another way of being. Our internal maps of the world often make up our identity and and that is what is being dismantled when we ask people to opt for another way of being. In order to help them be what they need we can use the tools they have already, such as resources, ways of thinking, ideas and knowledge to help them become more efficient in taking the new steps towards a greater sense freedom, love and inspiration. - Exercise # 3: Getting to know you..... In pairs, students ask each other why they are here. Students notice how the answer. Did they look up, speak fast, appear thoughtful, get excited? What was it about their body language that let you know they were telling the truth? How would you know if they were making it up? What signals do you need to be looking out for? Is it language patterns - words and sequence, eye accessing patterns - where they look to access information - accessing cues or voice tone etc etc?
- Encourage people to want to learn more about NLP - virtual and real life training.
