DLL Catch Up Friday March 22.docx CATCH UP FRIDAYS
Children's book of europe directions
1. 1. Choose a familiar character from a children’s book or cartoon (Mickey Mouse,
Spongebob, Homer Simpson, Yoda, Etc.) Remember, this project is meant to be a
children’s book so please make sure that what you create is appropriate. There
should be NO VIOLENCE OR SWEARING at all anywhere in this book.
2. You will be given a country in Europe by choosing out of a hat. Both you and
your partner, if you choose to have one, will have a chance to pull a country from
the hat and then may decide between the country that you pulled, or the one that
your partner pulled.
3. You will create an adventure for you character or characters in which they
encounter all of the following situations. You must give me FIVE sentence of
information for each of the required topics.
a. Architecture from your country (This means famous buildings of your
country.)
b. Language from your country (You need at least four sentence in the actual
language of your country. That means four sentences in German, French,
Spanish, ETC…. Yes, even English… see me for explanation)
c. Foods from your country. DO NOT JUST SAY BURGER KING. Please
tell me about foods that are native to that country.
d. Landforms in and around your country. (Rivers, Mountains, Lakes, ETC.)
e. Climate of your country. Do not just simply say, “Scooby Doo was
walking through Paris and it started to rain.” I would like for you to tell
me annual rainfall, average temperature, etc.
f. Capital city of our country. Tell me obviously the name of it, how big it is,
how many people live there, etc.
g. Activities of your country. What do they do for fun!
h. Famous Person of the country. Have your character meet someone famous
from your country and have a conversation with him or her. Make sure
you include details about the famous person’s life.
2. 4. Each page should have a detailed illustration on it describing what is happening
on that particular page.
5. Each Children’s book should be 12-14 pages in length.
6. Neatness and spelling are both important; please check your book before handing
it in.
7. You will need to do a bit of outside research for this project. I think that
encyclopedias and the Internet would be excellent resources to find the necessary
information. DO NOT just copy the information out of a book or copy and paste
right off of the Internet. I will be taking off 35 points if I feel that you are not
putting the information into your own words.
8. This can again be a solo project or I will allow you to work with one other person.
Again, I strongly suggest that you pick a partner that will do the same amount of
work that you do. I will not give any breaks to anyone who gets a lower grade
because their partner did not live up to their end of the deal. I think that you
should pick your partner according to what you want your grade to be.
