S3C: a hierarchical approach to
               sensor systems

Why was S3C formed?

   • A market for complex sensor systems was emerging
   • A coalition of industrial partners has been established to
     demonstrate demand
   • The common messages received:-
      – must have system-wide capability and be able to address
        challenges at the physical, communication, data and
        information integration levels.
      – must have systems integration expertise, the capacity to
        prototype systems throughout a stacked architecture.

projects of strategic national importance:

But also projects at an industry level, which
