Executive Summary
In this project, we were asked to start a business to raise fund for a charity
organization. The charity organization we chose was Society for the Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals, Selangor, Malaysia (SPCA Selangor). The reasons we chose this
organization is because they need our fund to protect and take care of the homeless
animals. They speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. Through this charity
drive, we successfully raised a total amount of RM2110.10 for the charity organization
by collecting donations and selling products. During the charity drive events, there were
a few competitors but we manage to find our method the hit the target. We did some
promotion on our product to get quick sales. We also provide good services for our
customer. We used different kind of persuasive techniques to communicate with our
suppliers and customers. Furthermore, we evaluated the duties and qualities required
by a job and stated the outline of the objectives, tasks, and responsibilities of a job. In
our team, we assigned the right job to the right person. Moreover, we also concerned
about green measures for this project. To sum up, our team is performing well since this
project started. The key factors that lead to well performance in this project are the
marketing plan, financial plan and operation plan.

Objectives
We chose to donate our profits to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Selangor,
Malaysia (SPCA Selangor). This is because that the SPCA, Selangor is a trusted charity
organization that is helping and protecting those defenseless animals. They receive
more than 700 unwanted, homeless or abused animals every month. They provide
adoption program, investigation of cruelty reports, humane education, assistance to
community animal caregivers and run a dedicated, low-cost spay/ neuter clinic. They
also lobby the Government and local municipals for humane treatment of animals and
harsher penalties for perpetrators of crimes against animals. Founded in 1958, SPCA is
a well-respected and trusted Non-Profit Organization. The organization has gained
tremendous goodwill, recognition and support from animal lovers all over Malaysia.
In this final project, we need to raise fund of at least RM2, 000 for SPCA. We
target to sell 150 pots of cactuses, 80 pieces of T-shirts, 20 health test services, 100
pieces of button badges and all the SPCA merchandises.

Target Market
In this final project, we mainly target on the students and the stuffs in the campus.
In these modern days, students tend to pay more attention to the trend of fashion. So,
we decided to sell T-shirts with cool designs. Moreover, there are a lot of non-local
students studying in the campus and they are living in hostel. In order to make their
hostel room to look more vibrant and energetic, we sell cactus to them to fulfill their
needs. Cactuses provide oxygen to them and make their mood better while studying.
Besides that, we also found out that there are a lot of badges collectors in the campus.
And so we include button badges in our product list. The spending power of these
people are quite good because most of them have better background and higher
standard lifestyle.

Competition Analysis
The 2 main competitors of our business are Dazzling Quintet and Six Little
Rabbits as they are also selling trendy clothes. The strengths of our products are they
are unique and high quality while the vulnerabilities of our competitors are the high
pricing of their products. But, the customers do buy products from them because they
had wide range of products and they are cool and attractive.

Packaging
Packaging is another way to create identity for the products. Packaging can
protect the products from damaging. Packaging also makes it convenient for customers
to purchase the product.
We bought beautiful designed paper bag for the cactus and flower printed plastic
bags for the other products. We also provide boxes for the SPCA mugs so that the
customers can carry it easily around the campus.

Setting and managing the price of the product is one of the most difficult and critical
decision that should be made for a business. No matter what type of product you are
selling, the price you charged your customers or clients will have a direct effect on the
success of your business. Although the pricing strategies can be complicated, the basic
rules of pricing are very straightforward. First of all, all the price must cover the costs
and profits. The most effective way to lower prices is to lower the costs. Furthermore,
the prices must be established to assure sales. During our charity drive,

Promotion
Before the charity drive event, we discussed and named our business Teen
Driven as we are selling products which will attract the teenagers. To promote our
business, we designed our own logo. It was used as our business’ Facebook and
Instagram page profile picture. We also printed the logo in an A4 size paper and pasted
it on the sign board at our booth. We promoted our products on our Facebook and
Instagram page and asked our friends to like the page. We also provide contact number
so that the customers who were interested in our product can easily contact us and get
more information. Furthermore, we did provide both online and offline pre-order services
to make the customers purchase our products easily.

Sponsorship
For our charity drive event, we are required to search for some sponsorship to
help us in purchasing the products. In our sponsorship letter, there is a Taylor’s campus
logo to show evidence that we are students of Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus.
After many tries distributing sponsorship letter to some companies, we finally get one
from our group member’s parents. We gave the sponsorship letter to them for their
signature as a proof of sponsoring us some money. Lee Qian Ying’s mother was willing
to sponsor 50 cactuses for us to sell. Here is the sponsorship letter that we had.

Fund Raising for Charity Drive Event
We, the students from the School of Architecture, Building and Design of Taylor’s
University, are currently involved in a fund raising event for our school project in
November 2013. Therefore, we write this letter with the intention to invite you to commit
some donations to this event.
2.
Our plan is to raise a total of RM2000.00 via sales of products. All profits earned
during the event will be donated to SPCA Selangor which is located at Ampang.
3.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Selangor, Malaysia (SPCA
Selangor) is a non-profit animal shelter in Selangor, Malaysia that aims to help animals
that cannot defend themselves. The SPCA Selangor was founded by Ruth Spiers in
1958.
4.
In addition to operating animal shelters, SPCA Selangor educates the public
about responsible pet ownership, lobbies for animal protection and animal control laws,
spays and neuters animals, and investigates animal cruelty complaints.
5.
I look forward to have your commitment in the donations. You may reach me at
0128168356.
Thank you.
Sincerely yours,
Lee Qian Ying

Distribution
The products we sell are bear designed T-shirts, Memes button badges,
cactuses and health test service. For the T-shirts and badges, we get them supplied by
two shops in Sunway Pyramid. We went there by bus and buy the products from them
in cash. As for the cactuses, we get them from the supplier in Malacca and one of our
team members send them to campus by car. Furthermore, we also get products from
SPCA. We took KTM and LRT to Ampang. We went there for SPCA’s merchandises
such as dog and cat mugs, diaries, note books, wristband, and woven bag. During the
charity drive, we also provide health test service using the health test tool brought by
one of the members.
We delivered our products to customers using face to face service. The
customers approached our booth and bought our products directly; as for the T-shirts,
we sell them by online and offline pre-order. The customers who were interested in
purchasing the T-shirts wrote down their names and contact numbers on the form we
prepared for them. This is to help us to contact them easily when the products they
ordered arrived. To minimize the waiting time of the customers, we went to Sunway
Pyramid to get the products from the supplier every two days.
Throughout the charity drive week, we took turns to get donation from people in
the campus while the others stayed at the booth to sell the products. We get most of the
donation from Divisional Offices and the people at the bus stop. There were more
people buying our products during peak hours which were lunch time and evening.

Green measures
During the charity drive event, we delivered our products with paper bags and
plastic bags. However, we always asked our customers the need of plastic bags before
giving them. Based on our knowledge on plastic bags, we knew that plastic bags are not
biodegradable like papers. It can produce toxic gases when it is burn using fire. Yet, we
cannot afford recycle bags since the cost of it is expensive than plastic bags, that is why
we get plastic bags to let customers carry their products easily. The pattern of plastic
bags we bought was nice, so our customers can reuse the plastic bags repeatedly.
As for the cactuses, we bought paper bags with two strings on to prevent our
customers carry around it with risk since cactuses grow with spikes. The paper bags are
thick enough to avoid the spikes coming out. It was also designed with nice pattern and
font, so customers can reuse it without any issues.

As a whole, we gained our profit by selling T-shirts, Button Badges, Cactus and
SPCA Products like Mugs, Notebooks, Diaries, Wristband, and Sticky Notes and also
providing health test services. So basically, the profit gained by selling 52 T-shirts after
deducting the costs price is RM464, 133 Cactus for profit RM544, 65 Button Badges for
profit RM6, health care services for RM65 and gained profit of RM611 from selling
SPCA products sponsored by SPCA Ampang. After some basic accounting, we gained
a total amount of RM2110.10 after adding sponsor revenue and donations and
deducting the selling expenses.
After the charity drive week, we made reflection on our business. We could say
that we have succeeded as we have reached the targeted profit of more than RM2000
in which we didn’t expect the outcome. The sponsorship from SPCA in which SPCA
provided us their products for free really did increase our sales revenue, which is a total

of RM611.00 sales which is also our direct net profit. Besides, we had set a good
strategy by selling the T-shirts using pre-orders method which is safer so that we would
not bare too much loses of it. The sales of cactus also contributed a large part of profit
we gained. As for the health test, it was an extra income for our business.
However, we also did something wrong throughout this event. On the first day of
the charity drive week, the sales of T-shirts were really bad and we only managed to get
one pre-order of shirts. This is due to the way of displaying our T-shirts, in which we
displayed them on the table with plastic bags wrapping over the shirts. The next day, we
did promotion for the shirts and hung 3 samples high up using hangers to attract more
people. And this really worked as our sales of T-shirts improved on the following day
and we received more and more pre-orders. If we were to repeat the event one more
time, we would not order too many of our products. The badges sales were really bad
as we only managed to sell 65 out of 180 badges, however the supplier was willing to
let us return the remaining unsold badges after the charity event, same goes to the
cactus in which we initially bought 150 cactuses and managed to sell 133, and returned
the remaining 17 cactus. And also we would have approach and collect more donation
in the school compound as our donations collected from our donation box is only
RM325.00, considered little as compared to the other groups. We would also approach
and gain more sponsorship from outside businesses if we were to repeat the event one
more time.
