FPGAs have continued to proliferate into more applications and end devices as the Internet-of-Things continues to expand. FPGAs offer a number of advantages from a technical and cost perspective. One of the more obvious advantages from a technology standpoint is that FPGAs are reprogrammable. This gives the device developer needed flexibility and helps ultimately reduce the time to market. Then from a commercial standpoint, FPGAs differentiate themselves from the traditional ASICs through their lack of Non-Recurring Engineering (NRE) costs.
