One of the main challenges facing genebank curators is in finding information on genebank management in terms of protocols, manual, standards. Often such information are scattered and not readily accessible, especially unpublished ones. Most of past publications have been generic one e.g and often difficult to apply on specific crops. The aim of the KB is harmonize practices among genebank so that genebank materials are effectively and efficient conserved and made available to users and contribute to a global conservation system.
The choice of the crops was decided on crops which are held in common in CG genebank”; however the system is designed so that to allow addition of other crops in eth future The process of gathering best practices was led by CGIAR centers curators for their specific crops; We also compiled all existing publications relating to genebanks We also prepared a crop specific regeneration guidelines supported by the Trust.
We are transforming information into knowledge , enhancing the value of scattered diverse information as well as unique information and putting it together in an useful , l ogical , attractive , and dynamic format ( the knowledge base!).
Here I would like to emphasize that the objective of the portal is to strengthen capacity to manage genebanks. Therefore it has been designed to facilitate self-learning and to also support formal learning and training by providing learning materials, references, full text of resource materials, audiovisual material that can be re-used for workshops, courses or seminars.
