Bring in symbols book and pattern book, “hand jobs”Have a discussion about signs we see in our everyday lives. Make list during our conversation and everyone draws symbol/signs on pieces of paper. Ask for examples from students.Talk about the signs and what happens when they are taken out of context/put into context

Students make their own stamps and stencils.They cover white paper in their designs and larger drawing paper that is hung on the wall (or put on the table)Julia reminds them that when creating graphics for repetition it is best to make simple, bold shapes.
Students get photocopies of each others patterns. They cut, layer and remix each others patterns.
