Dear Judges:
Ever since I was little I have had a passion in performing. I used to hold “concerts” for my
parents and family members all the time. So when I went to middle school and got my first
opportunity to perform in a play I took it. Ever since then, theatre and acting have been my true
passion. So for my senior project, I knew right away that whatever I did would have to be
focused on acting. I also enjoy helping people, so I took these two contrasting ideas and
combined them for my project. I wrote, directed, and produced a play starring the special needs
students in my school.
My final product was the performance, which ended up being spectacular. I was so proud of the
kids for all of their hard work and seeing how far they had come since the beginning. Throughout
my research, I learned that getting special needs students involved in the arts progresses many of
their skills to better improve their lives. That is how I combined my love of acting with my love
of helping people. Even though it turned out great, there were many obstacles. The biggest one
being that I didn’t get to spend very much time with the kids. It was a struggle to fit in time, and
towards the end I was getting a little nervous but it all came together at the last minute. The other
obstacle was getting the kids to memorize their lines and moves. But after working with them
one on one I overcame that obstacle as well.
The reason I chose this as my project was because I couldn’t decide what I wanted to study in
college. I had to choose between theatre and occupational therapy. I tried my best to create a
project that would give me some kind of experience in each field. For acting, I got to see the
other side of a production. For occupational therapy, I got to work with special needs children
and come up with something to better improve their lifestyle. In the end it was clear to me that I
want to pursue a career in acting/theatre. As much as I love helping people and those children, I
decided that my passion lies in acting. So for college, I will be going to Kennesaw State
University to major in theatre.
I am pleasedto say that I was able to find a senior project that reflects my passion and I
thoroughly enjoyed. I want to thank you very much for taking the time to let me share this with
you and for listening to my presentation.
