addressing family violence.
Working with Adolescents:
Treatment and Prevention
Discuss the differences between adolescent and adult
substance use/abuse, and review evidence-based approaches for working with adolescents. Relationships
with parenting style and parental substance abuse are
considered. Treatment methods considered are family
therapies, multisystemic therapy, and adolescent CRA
(ACRA). Additionally, a program for working with
family members to engage resistant teens into treatment
will be introduced: community reinforcement and family training CRAFT. A ‘what works’ review is included,
examining the evidence base for various approaches to
prevention.
