switch to Christianity or stay with their
heathen ways.
• They indeed clung to Christianity.
• This religion was introduced as a solid
community attribute to the Mexican
Indians.
• The conquest was taken for granted.

the Spanish Conquest as a
Nonevent
• Bernardo Garcia believed that we could
not separate the difference between
Political and spiritual conquests.
• Cortes was known for having many
advantages over his officers, such as
cunning, intelligence, and charasmatic
appeal to his followers. That could very
well be why he lead his conquest to
oblivion of Spain.
