Defining Plagiarism
 Intentional:
    to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as
     one's own : use (another's production) without crediting
     the source . (www.merriam-webster.com)
 Unintentional:
    Quoting an author inaccurately
    Misrepresenting the authors words (poor summarizing)
    Citing the wrong source
Why Student’s Plagiarize …
 Research Skills or Writing Skills
    Poor research skills
    Confusion about paraphrasing
    Careless note-taking in class
    Confusion over how to properly cite resources


 Misunderstanding
   What plagiarism actually is
   What is common knowledge
