‘Roar’ sang by Katy Perry falls under the Pop
genre and this song and this genre has many
characteristics that Katy Perry follows. ‘Roar’ and
Pop music usually have upbeat , dance
orientated music that are linked to the lyrics. The
costume worn by the artists are usually
fashionable, stylish and mainstream outfits. This
makes relatable for the youthful target audience.
This video is edited with cartoon effect that
attracts the young target audience. Most pop
videos feature in some sort of love in the
narrative. This links to Roar as the lyrics are about
love. This also appeals to the younger generation.
Also, there is not much voyeurism used as it
would not be appropriate for the target audience.

audience or make eye contact
with someone in the video. When
eye contact is made between the
artist and audience it is usually to
establish a connection between
the audience and Katy Perry.
There is always some sort of
voyeurism in Pop videos. This is
most commonly in the female
form.

Within the Music video there are many extreme
close ups or close up’s of the artist. This is allowing
the record label to sell and promote the artist. This
creates a larger fan base for the artist in this case
Katy Perry. The close ups emphasises on Katy’s
beauty and when she roars back at the tiger shows
that she is strong, independent and willing to fight
back to anything.
The chose of costume reveals her stomach and her
legs. This shows voyeurism. This attracts the target
audience. The chose of costume also portray a sexy
yet strong character.

intertexualises with ‘George of the
Jungle’.
• George is the dominant character
in the film and so is Katy.
