1913. The use of a moving line reduced a car's assembly time from 12 hours to 93 minutes. The world's first
automatic conveyor belt escalated the Industrial Age inspiring Henry Ford toward an unprecedented $5 per day
minimum wage and an eight-hour day when auto industry workers were making $2.34 for a nine-hour shift. Faster
assemblage meant quicker availability, giving impetus to America's car culture and an ever-increasing mobile
society. (AP Photo/Ford Motor Company)
