3. PRESENTATION
Going Green Translations® was founded in Teramo in 2002 from the desire of its
founder and current Managing Director to expand the range of translation and interpreting
services on offer in Abruzzo, a region in central Italy where the linguistic services market was
still poorly served.
Initially our role was mainly that of supplier to larger and more structured agencies,
but we quickly gained a considerable number of direct clients. Currently, the territory we cover
extends well beyond the confines of the region and the country.
Since our agency was founded, our sales volume has grown continually, and as the
number of our clients and the range of services that we offer expanded, we saw that we
were going to need to reorganise our internal management. For this reason, we equipped
ourselves with LTC Worx management software and embarked on the certification procedure
for UNI EN ISO 9001:2008.
Currently, Going Green Translations® consists of a Managing Director who is
concerned with administration and project management, a project manager and in-house
translator, and two external project managers. Using the LTC Worx management program,
the project managers coordinate a network consisting of a total of 250 external translators,
revisers and interpreters.
About 75% of our sales volume comes from abroad.
Going Green Translations is a member of:
> COM&TEC (Italian Association for Technical Communication)
> UNILINGUE (National Association of Language and Conference Service
Companies)
> ASTTI (Swiss Association of Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters).

4. OUR HISTORY
Going Green Translations® was started to address the lack of translation agencies
in the area from which we come. In 2002 there was not a single agency in Teramo and its
province.
After experience as freelancer and project manager in a well-organised translation
office and with a foreign bank, the present Managing Director decided to establish a business
which could offer complete service to companies, from technical writing to translation and
desktop publishing, performed by a highly specialised staff.
Our first clients were mainly language service providers in Italy and abroad, who at
first gave us small translation and revision jobs. The quality of our work enabled us to obtain
ever growing commissions and to manage complex projects including translation, revision
and desktop publishing, not just into Italian but in both directions in numerous linguistic
combinations.
In parallel with this we launched a judicious campaign to acquire clients, in Italy and
abroad. These direct contacts have enabled us to refine our skills, to face a wide variety of
different challenges and demands and to provide informed consultancy.
The mission of Going Green Translations® is to provide quality services and offer
reliable advice, aimed at identifying the services which best correspond to our clients’ needs.
Our target clientele operates at a global level, and is demanding in terms of quality and
collaboration in the exchange of information.
Our paramount aim is to offer services which meet and exceed expectations because,
as our motto states, Our Business is Translating Your Business®. Our clients’ success, we
are convinced, will reflect on us.

common graphics and desktop publishing tools.

9. PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Going Green Translations® performs all administrative and workflow management
operations using LTC Worx management software, which enables us to handle multilingual
projects in all their complexity, from the first request for an estimate right through to invoicing
(for further information on the functionalities of the software, go to http://www.langtech.co.uk/
products/ltc-worx.html).
In this way we are able to ensure optimal management of multilingual projects at all
their operational stages while keeping a constant check on workflows and the availability
of internal and external resources. This software tool has also facilitated a reduction of
complex bureaucratic procedures and the almost total elimination of cumbersome paper
documentation, and it has speeded up the workflow.

10. OUR WORKING METHOD
Each project we handle is assigned to a project manager, whose tasks include the
following:
creating the estimate
organising the project
selecting the people to use (translators, revisers etc.) on the basis of the language
combinations required, the specialised field and the volume of work
scheduling the timing
quality control
handling communications with the client, translators and revisers.
These tasks are dictated by three important objectives: ensuring that the timing meets
the client’s requirements, offering a product which complies with specific quality standards
and adhering to the agreed budget.
Once the translation is finished, the reviser makes a series of checks with regard to:
completeness, grammatical correctness, spelling, style, terminology, absence of translation
errors and heeding of the instructions, the style guide, the reference material and any glossary
provided by the client or Going Green Translations®. Collaboration among the reviser, project
manager and translators working on the same job is strongly encouraged.

11. TERMINOLOGY MANAGEMENT
Rigorous handling of terminology is crucial in order to offer quality service to loyal and
regular clients and to optimise the long-term use of resources. Among the services offered by
Going Green Translations® are managing and updating translation memories, terminology
extraction and compilation of multilingual glossaries and tailor-made terminology databases,
both for regular clients and for specific jobs, designed to ensure strict terminological
consistency in all situations and for all types of texts.
Terminological resources are regularly updated to include contributions derived from
new translation and revision jobs, and are sent to our collaborators at the same time as each
new job is assigned.
In the case of some highly-specialised fields, the terminology evolves as the
technology progresses. In order to keep our terminology services in step with the times, we
encourage feedback from our clients on jobs which we have done, in order to be able to add
to our resources and make amendments where necessary.
Terminology management is carried out by in-house staff using the principal CAT
tools available on the market.

12. DISPUTE MANAGEMENT
Translation is an imperfect science. Recognising this, we wish to take advantage of
any feedback received from our clients, and this includes disputes. We therefore considered
it necessary to implement the following method of handling disputes:
we examin the material in dispute in close collaboration with the client
we check the material in dispute with the reviser and the translator
we present the proposed corrections to the client
we implement the solutions approved by the client.
At every stage of the process, we attempt to maintain a proactive attitude in order to
identify the solutions most appropriate to the client’s needs in the shortest possible time.

13. TOOLS FOR COMPUTER-ASSISTED TRANSLATION
To guarantee the quality of our work, ensure proper management of projects and
remain competitive on the language services market, we consider it essential to utilise
a number of the leading computer-assisted translation tools (CAT tools) currently on the
market, which are based on translation memories.
The use of translation memories provides significant advantages, because it enables
us to reuse parts of texts which have already been translated in the past, thus ensuring
terminological consistency and speed up the translation process.

14. QUALITY CONTROL
From the very beginning, Going Green Translations® has aimed at providing quality
services. We were aware that the only way to break into the market, establish ourselves and
maintain our position would be to provide higher quality than our competitors. We therefore
instituted a checklist for quality assurance, which initially specified:
1) internal or external revision of all the translations we provide;
2) compilation of a small manual to guide revisers;
3) continuous exchange of information with our translators (who are encouraged to
ask questions in case of uncertainty) and with our clients;
4) preparation of a feedback questionnaire for clients. The questionnaire contained
a list of questions aimed at determining the level of client satisfaction, with a view to
improving our performance;
5) proposal for a preliminary meeting with clients to plan the work (timing, contact
person, project management, glossaries etc.) in the case of high-volume jobs.
Over the course of the years we realised that we needed to make our quality control
procedures official. For this reason we embarked on the procedure for obtaining UNI EN ISO
9001:2008 certification. The procedure is currently in progress.
With a view to this, all our interpreters, translators and revisers are selected on the
basis of specific criteria. Irrespective of the way they first make contact with Going Green
Translations®, translators must satisfy the following requirements:
1) they must have at least two years’ experience in their specialised field;
2) they must be native speakers of the target language and live in the country where
it is spoken;
3) they must be able to use the most common CAT tools;
4) they must be prepared to take a translation test.

15. When we are first contacted by a potential new client, we propose doing a test
translation. To do this, we select several translators from among our contacts to take the
test and we review their translations carefully.
We then propose to the client the translators who have performed best on the
tests and ask them to give us feedback on these tests. This procedure is not a sign of
insecurity but our way of involving the client in an active collaboration, in order to select
the translators who best fit their requirements (particularly in terms of style).
Revisers must satisfy the following criteria:
1) they must have at least five years’ experience as revisers;
2) they must have at least two years’ experience as translators;
3) they must be native speakers of the target language and live in the country
where it is spoken;
4) they must be able to use the most common CAT tools.
Revisers are given a form for the revision on which they are asked to indicate their
assessment and note any errors found.
