(RB) Welcome! Nearly every outdoor excursion these days begins online! Today we are going to be talking about a vision for how outdoor excursions that begin online, can be an easy and enjoyable experience. We’ll be highlighting a project right here in Portland to illustrate this vision.
(MW) The Intertwine Alliance is….. Both TriMet and Metro are critical members and partners.
(MW) We are currently working on an exciting project to improve the outdoor experience for citizens and visitors to Portland. The first is an upgrade to our website and interactive map for exploring parks, trails and nature in the Portland region.
(MW) The second is the Daycation application, a mobile app that is currently in the exploration phase that will enable people to more easily connect to and experience their local parks, trails and natural areas.
(RB) Let’s take a step back and look at the broader outdoor landscape.
(RB) Our solution/vision: OpenTrails, a standard way to manage park information intended for visitors to consume in modern mobile apps and maps.
(RB) Adoption of OpenTrails is growing across the country with over 25 agencies and nearly 20,000 miles in process.
(RB) Our solution/vision: OuterSpatial, a new web platform specifically designed for park agencies to manage, maintain and publish their authoritative park and recreation information.
(BS) Geographic Information Systems or GIS data are created and maintained at the Metro Data Resource Center, as well as by other jurisdictions and agencies throughout the region. Metro serves as a clearinghouse for spatial data - providing a "one stop shopping" approach to accessing regional data. These regional data are known as the Regional Land Information System (RLIS). The NRPA model contains nearly 50 separate attributes. Because we had our own needs in addition to those 50, we had over 65 attributes to begin with.
(RP) Describe the process of collecting trailheads. A dataset that did not exist in Portland, but that is a key component of OpenTrails and important for visitor facing applications. Maybe speak to the success of GTFS and that OpenTrails is following its path.
(RB) Now that a first run of OpenTrails data for the region is complete and a workflow in place, each agency now has a dashboard to manage their data and publish notification, events, photos, etc. and those data will publish to the interactive map and Daycation application when they are launched.

(RB) Daycation and the Intertwine Interactive web map will have access to accurate authoritative content directly from the park agencies.
