Editor's Notes
This short presentation offers viewers an overview of collaborative research methods online I have used. I presented these ideas to students in the business and information technology programmes in the Limerick Institute of Technology in October 2013. This slide deck was made by @topgold and it relates to the #LITcrm and #webtech hashtags. I snpped the photo during Limerick Open Coffee in the Clarion Hotel of Limerick. For the record, I blog at www.insideview.ie, talk at audioboo.fm/topgold and share videos at youtube.com/topgold including several made with Camtasia Studio.
I have worked with collaborators online since the late 70s and I value workflows that gather data and enhance its value.
My go-to fonts of information have apps in both the iOS and Android ecosystems. I use Pinboard, Twitter, Delicious and Evernote several hours every week.
Content production is an e-business skill refined by the clever use of web technologies. Business intelligence evolves through an efficient use of a process.
You should develop a process whereby you can discover and share business intelligence. Both Wordle and Google Images give you important perspectives.
Natural Language Processing is integral to the semantic web.
http://pinboard.in is a powerful search tool. It’s a paid service.
Pinboard shows you related tags, often pointing to brand names deserving further investigation.
Pinboard shows you related tags. Sometimes you can get ideas for apps and services worth considering.
The powerful http://pinboard.in search normally requires paid access. This query string should work without logging into Pinboard.
Delicious is a free site. It is as powerful as the user’s network.
I often discover sites and services worth exploring because they appear in the Delicious links shared by people in my network.
The words that appear are in the order of them being searched by people using Google.
Results suggest companies like badges and stickers that prove they’re first class.
You might get ideas on constructing a valid customer service survey after searching images.google.com for “customer”.
Twitter search is getting very good at offering ideas on how people express terms of reference.
If you are expert with CRM, you should share photos related to CRM through the main Twitter app.
The “people” result often shows paid client accounts (i.e., they pay Twitter for services).
Using dabr.eu instead of Twitter.com shows cleaner results, often with links to relevant content.
Evernote is a free service that never loses the important stuff you need to keep. Its search function is very powerful.
You can use doc files or big blocks of text to get a result.
Wordle can help make sense out of large blocks of text.
Wordle can often reveal more about an event than the headlines on the event promotional material.
The essential apps used in this presentation: Google (free), Twitter (free), Pushpin (€8 for Pushpin and $10 for Pinboard) and Evernote (free).
Your hard drive and handheld cache will become bloated if you don’t consider the weight of all the stuff you think you need to save.

The workflow itself should be an intelligent business process.
The best research is often curated from the wisdom of the crowds. Twitter can provide some of that functionality—but it depends on the quality of the signal-to-noise ratio when following a curated list of people. This slide deck also uses skills related to annotated references in the bit.ly document cited (current through 30 October 2013).
