ABOUT WAT PAH SAMRKKI OF KILLEEN
Wat Pah Samarkki of Killeen is a traditional Buddhist temple located on Killeen, Texas 76542. Its
constituency consists mainly of immigrants from Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia, so the type of Buddhism
practiced here is Theravada, the dominant Buddhism of Southeast Asia. Theravada means “way of the elders,”
and it has existed in Asia for over 2,500 years. We trace our spiritual lineage all the way back to the Buddha,
who passed away in 2550 B.C. Three monks currently reside at Wat ……………., and approximately three
hundred lay people attend the temple for various religious services. These services include :
1. End of the year and New Year Festival

previous life of the Lord Buddha when he was conceived in heaven. This doctrine called “Vessandonchadok” or
the Epic of Vessandon. Anyone who has heard of all 13 sermons, such person will go to heaven. This will take

REMUNERATION
Since the Buddha strictly forbade monks from earning a salary, Wat …………….. does not provide financial
remuneration to the Phra………………. or any of its other monks-including myself. Our service is considered to
be of such value to the community that a regular salary would pale in comparison to the spiritual merit we
accrue for our congregation and the world in general. In exchange, the congregation - under the leadership of a
Board of Directors and in strict accordance with the temple’s by-laws-maintains a treasury from which the
temple’s general expenses are paid. These expense included food, shelter, utilities, and transportation for all
monks. In other word, the Phra …………… receives food, shelter, utilities, and transportation in lieu of cash
payment. His services are voluntary.
It is my sincere hope that the Phra……………’s application for a Permanent Resident Card (green card) will be
favorably met. He is an invaluable asset to our spiritual community and his presence here in the Unites States
is unqualifiedly beneficial. Please feel free to contact me if there is any more information I can provide you to
help you in your consideration.
Respectfully yours,
Venerable
Abbot of Wat pah Samarkki of Killeen
