This document provides an introduction to primary and secondary sources of U.S. law for LL.M students. It summarizes the three main types of primary law: statutory law (codes and annotated codes), case law (common law system where case opinions are primary), and administrative law (rules from agencies). It also lists some common secondary sources that analyze and explain the law, such as legal encyclopedias, treatises, hornbooks, nutshells, and law reviews. Contact information is provided for the law library reference staff for any additional questions.
