The warmer months are from June to August, which is summer and the cooler months are from December to February, which is winter. There are rarely extreme temperatures during the seasons. The air is relatively humid and fog is common in autumn and spring. During WW1 the Netherlands was neutral, but in WW2 1940 it was invaded by Nazi’s and was liberated in May 1945. <br />Culture, People and Traditions<br />The Netherlands has many traditions and cultural events, such as food, clothes, language, the royal family, the government and also religious freedom. The languages that the Dutch people speak are Dutch and Frisian which are the official languages in the Netherlands. The main religions in the Netherlands are Dutch Reform Protestant, Roman Catholic and Muslim. The tradition of religious tolerance and the separation of the church and the state are strong in the Netherlands were key in the formation of the country.<br />Traditionally Dutch people wore wooden shoes called clogs. Clogs are still worn by farmers as a type of gumboot. Each of the provinces in the Netherlands also has a traditional costume, although the dress of the seaward provinces is better known internationally.<br />The main sports that are played in the Netherlands are football or soccer and ice skating.
